ABOUT
Tales on Silk is a labour of love of an expat who misses her culture and wants to showcase her interpretation of the wondrous arts of her land to the world. The motifs in the collections are my interpretation of an ancient tribal art form from my country - India.
TalesonSilk currently offers:
Silk scarves
Skirts
Leather bags
Soon to come: Sunglasses

Our readers would love to get to know you more Tales. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?

An expat living in the Netherlands, coming from a very creative family. My grandfather used to dress Bollywood stars from the 30s & 40s. Tales on Silk is my creative outlet and a way to bring my vibrant culture to a broader audience.

Tales on Silk, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Fashion Label?

My passions are design, architecture, fashion, pop culture. Eventually, I would like Tales on Silk to be a platform of sorts for artists & artisans whose skills I can showcase to the world

Who is your inspiration in life Tales on Silk? How do you keep inspired?

My inspiration are women who juggle everything in their lives and find creative ways of keeping everything together. My inspiration are also tribal artists, who put their heart & soul into every piece, mural that they create

We all make mistakes Tales on Silk, we wish we could take back. Please tell us about a time being a Fashion Label , you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I guess in the day to day, one tends to forget to take a step back and assess the situation. I think I could do more of that

Tales on Silk ,when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Fashion Label, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?

A client means the world to me. I can give an example, where a first time client did not get a scarf they had ordered due to some issues at customs. I immediately sent them another piece for no cost to ensure that they could enjoy this piece of art that I had made so lovingly. Its a small gesture, but everything counts.

Please tell us Tales on Silk, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Fashion Label?

For a small label like mine, I have to be strategic all the time and make sometimes difficult choices to ensure that the label can scale and be loved

Tales on Silk, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
I have made my vendors see things my way several times. As a small label, you don't always get priority, but I have tried to help them see the bigger picture and it has paid off at times.

Tales on Silk, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Fashion Label. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share to everyone. What is it and why?
My scarves were sold alongside brands like Acne & Avelon in a popular multi-brand boutique in my hometown. That was by far my biggest achievement. It also happened to be my first order.

Tales on Silk, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
Creativity is my driving force, so I find it incredibly exciting to create. In my mind, I am creating all the time. I also have to be creative about marketing my brand in the best way possible with the resources I have.

What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Fashion Label?

I would advise them to be patient and not give up. Another very practical advice would be to build relationships with your suppliers. Fashion suppliers are the ones who can make or break your business.

Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state below what type of collaboration you are looking for?
I would love to collaborate with models and/or other designers in the space.
