I am from Baku, Azerbaijan. I've lived there all my life until I graduated from school and moved to Madrid for my university studies. I studied Business Administration at IE Business School and had just graduated in July 2017.
After four years of living in Spain, being from a country that some either haven't heard about and some knew nothing about was frustrating. This is why I created ALOV.
ALOV is an Azerbaijani brand based in Spain that incorporates traditional and cultural motifs into modern fashion. Our clothes are hand-made, full of vivid colours and unique style. More importantly, every collection has a story behind it!
We feel the importance of promoting the ancient and modern heritage, culture and traditions of Azerbaijan; showing the rich and distinctive culture that the Azeris have created over the centuries. We believe it is important to protect Azerbaijani cultural values and enhance the cultural life, letting the rest of the world know about our music, folk art, national dances, carpet weaving, literature, festivities and much more!
Our readers would love to get to know you more Nuriya. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?
I believe every person is unique, we all have dreams, aspirations and hopes. It is important to be yourself instead of following the crowd, trying to 'fit in.'
Nuriya, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Fashion Label?
It is important to be passionate about what you do to achieve your goal! I have always been a creative person, and my imagination has always been my best friend. I finished a degree in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing & Advertising, and I always imagined myself working in Inditex, in their marketing department. Instead, I launched my fashion brand, incorporating traditional elements into fashionable clothing and I can't wait till I get to share all of my thoughts and ideas with the world.
Who is your inspiration in life Nuriya? How do you keep inspired?
It is Amancio Ortega. His persistence and the way he managed to revolutionise the fashion industry amazes me and inspires to move forward.
We all make mistakes Nuriya; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Fashion Label; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I am a timid person, so working with people is a struggle for me. I had several situations throughout the path of launching my fashion label, where I should have been tougher and harsher, but I am certain it will come with time, I am working on that
Nuriya , when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Fashion Label, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?
Clients are always, always, always your number one priority. It is crucial to make your customers know and feel that they are important and their opinions matter. For example, a few of my clients wanted different clothing items, but with the same designs, so we made those for them. Every client has the chance to get his personalised item, all they have to do is email!
Please tell us Nuriya, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Fashion Label?
There is obviously a list of tasks needed to be done every day; I am reliable for getting the orders ready to be shipped, ship them, deal with the website, answer to clients' emails. As right now I only have one employee, who saws for the brand, I am responsible for the rest. Therefore, I must manage priorities correctly.
Nuriya, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
Some people did not believe in the designs and the brand; they did not see the story behind it, did not want to understand it. So I decided, instead of telling every one of the idea in advance, it would be better to stand on my idea, never give up and continue working on it, to show them the final result. And guess what? I managed to get their attention.
Nuriya, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Fashion Label. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
As we are still very new, I can only be proud of launching the whole label by the myself-the website, the social media, the designs, all the little details. I am hoping to get attention from customers all over the world; I want them to see my designs and recognise us as a brand. I am hoping for many more proud moments because this is just a start.
Nuriya, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
I have to be creative with my work; it is what I do. My first collection is dedicated to pomegranates, it is called 'NAR'. I have started with simple pomegranate designs, but in our next collections you will see how we have managed to use the same concept but incorporate it into our winter collection. It is interesting how our brains work; we can come up with so many unique ideas!
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Fashion Label?
If you are launching a Fashion Label, have a brand story! Nowadays, there are so many brands around us; you have to give your customers a reason for being unique.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
I am always open to collaborations with brands, fashion talents and more importantly artists. As a brand, we celebrate being different, being unique, and having the desire to stand out. We are all about curiosity and exploration!
