ABOUT
I am currently studying at Diablo Valley College to get my associates and transfer to Cal State East Bay in Fall 2018 to receive my Bachelor's in Communication Studies in advertising and marketing. In a couple of months, I will be starting my internship in the marketing business which promotes local businesses.
I have been modelling for four years and am trying to become published fashion model. I am about to be modelling for Gun Play Clothing and would love to model for more clothing lines.
I take great direction, demonstrate a good variety of creativity, and work well in creative teams.
Our readers would love to get to know you more Shelby. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?
I love to go on hikes, play music, and model in my spare time. I have been diagnosed with Autism at six years old and was mainstreamed at 4th grade. I have overcome shyness and social anxiety which has made me stronger in pursuing my dreams.
Shelby, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
Modelling has always been my calling since I was little. I would respond to casting calls that cross my path and utilised my resources by contacting those who I know who are in the industry. My cousin one day reached out to me on social media wanting me to come to photo shoots and model. Next thing you know, photographers have been reaching out to me; helping me expand my portfolio. Within the last four years, I've learned a lot and came a long way as for confidence and techniques.
Who is your inspiration in life Shelby? How do you keep inspired?
My mother has inspired me because she has always believed in me since day one. She is the one who told me to follow my dreams and never let anyone, including her, tell me that I can't.
We all make mistakes Shelby; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
One time, my alarm never went off for a photoshoot. I was an hour late and less prepared than I thought. The photographer almost had to cancel the shoot but insisted that we continued with the shoot, profusely apologising for being late, less prepared, etc.
Shelby, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
Maintain professionalism and properly assess the situation to find great solutions.
Please tell us, Shelby, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Model?
When I was coordinating a cosplay shoot of Alice In Wonderland. I'm talking props, characters, wardrobe; you name it.
Shelby, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
As stated in my previous answer, it was a success to have the cosplay shoot the way I planned it. Everyone demonstrated great teamwork and the quality of work was overall amazing.
Shelby, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
Getting approved by Gun Play Clothing to model for their clothing and getting featured on their website. I've always wanted to become a fashion model, and I feel like my hard work and dedication is starting to pay off.
Shelby, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
When I was shooting at a cemetery in Oakland. The photographer and I were trying to go for an alternative theme. Heavy makeup, fishnets, boots, and sexy. Even though it was difficult for me to work in the cold. The shoot was great regarding quality and art.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?*
*
Confidence is key, which gives great posture and better results. There's always room for improvement, so keep your head up and never give up.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
I'd love to collaborate with Hollister, PacSun, Tilly's, and other California fashion talents.
