My hidden talent is that I can sing with my throat! (Kind of like singing with the mouth closed but different)
Shelby, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
My passion is helping others feel good about themselves to the fullest extent. My aspiration in life is to always stay happy in what I decide to do and give it my all. I started as a model when I retired from pageantry and was encouraged to try it out!
Who is your inspiration in life Shelby? How do you keep inspired?
My inspiration is my 4-year-old cousin. She always has a positive outlook on life, has never treated another person in a way she wouldn't want to be treated, and brings a smile to the face of everyone around her. I hope one day we all can learn to live like this sweet four year old and it's what I strive to do a little more every day.
We all make mistakes Shelby; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I think any mistakes I've made thus far; I have had the opportunity to learn from them and experience growth. In the amount of time I have been modelling, I, fortunately, have not had a major mistake that I can recall, but when that time rolls around I will be sure to handle it with the utmost respect and professionalism
Shelby, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
A client's needs all start with your own. Being well versed in time management and self-care are imperative to dealing with multiple clients. If you aren't giving your best self - physically and mentally - to your client, then your service will not be satisfactory.
Please tell us, Shelby, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Model?
Modelling and travelling go hand-in-hand. Staying on top of travel time and being on time, should always be handled in a strategic manner. This is something that takes practice and in the beginning caused a few bumps for me personally, but today this is one of my strongest attributes because of those learning experiences.
Shelby, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
As a starting model, I strive to walk the fine line that has painted for me gracefully; you never know whose toes you might step on!
Shelby, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
My proudest moment was when I made the decision to go forward in this industry. I had struggled so long as a young girl with my physical image that it left me broken with almost no self-esteem. After taking those first few steps into modelling, I saw myself with a different perspective. Everyone in this business is so unique and diverse; it gave me this wave of confidence that helped me decide to keep pushing on. It is a decision I have yet to regret.
Shelby, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
To begin with, I was slightly bashful in front of the camera. I knew this was something that needed to be improved, so I set up my camera at home, bought a clicker, and went crazy! Practising this way helped me become more expressive and brought out my personality that I was so afraid to show off!
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?
Come into the industry with realistic goals, no expectations, and you will feel far more accomplished. Oh, and always get 8 hours of sleep EVERY night!
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
