I’m a native of St.Maarten. I grew up in New York. I studied communication. I have 15 years of retail experience, so I was exposed to trends. I managed for eight yrs several retail stores, so I know how to market with lots of knowledge in sales. I was a personal stylist for a client base of 5k. My passions are modeling , photography and I take all my photos on my cellphone. I’m a mother of four beautiful children. I’m interested in being a model. I will like to learn about fashion editorial and marketing/advertising.
A pleasure to meet you.
Our readers would love to get to know you more Sharien. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?
Unique to me it’s simply there is only one me. I embrace life and all it has to offer. I was told I have several unique looks. I’m looking forward to a professional photographer to capture all my unique features and looks.
Sharien, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
Being photographed has been a scary area for me. I’ve always been conscious of my weight and how people view me. I wasn’t confident growing up. As years passed, I recently decided to take a chance and come out of my shell. I always knew one of my passions was photography, but I neve thought about being on the other side of the lense. I’m embracing myself finally. I’m ready to come out of my shell. As you can see on my Instagram page MarliRosePhotography through different positions, I’m testing my limits. I’m ready to be discovered. I’m ready to show my inner beauty and outer that has always been there.
Who is your inspiration in life Sharien? How do you keep inspired?
My inspiration is my great aunt. When I left St.Maarten, it was a very devastating time in my life. Half of my Island was destroyed in 1995. I moved to New York, and with the help of my great aunt, she nurtured me in this woman I am today. She keeps me grounded. Love her ❤️
We all make mistakes Sharien; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I modeled for an African clothing designer while I was in college. Batik design was very beautiful prints. I had no conflict besides the fact at that time I refused my photos to get published. I wish I were wasn’t scared at that time to let the world see me.
Sharien, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?
Working with clients and their needs and time frames I’m excellent with. I strive on keeping commitments. I have 15 yrs of working in retail base with excellent above and beyond customer service. I dealt with a client base of 5 k clients that I styled. I know how to prioritize while providing professional and intimate service.
Please tell us Sharien, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Model?
I just recently created my MarliRosePhotography page on Instagram with the hope that my talent would be noticed. Thanks to Model Citizen Magazine I’m now able to use this as an additional platform. I continue to inspire myself by looking back at my photos and looking at other aspiring models.
Sharien, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
Persuasion is a skill. Mostly being a team player with drive, great work ethics and communication will take you along the way. But the skill to persuade my audience is to know my audience and their wants or needs and to use those few elements to entice to let them see your vision also.
Sharien, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want with share to everyone. What is it and why?
My proudest accomplishments are my four children. They are little parts of me.
Sharien, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
I’m learning right now how to allow myself to flow. I’ve always been creative. I just needed the strength from within to explore beyond my inner walls. I’m pushing my limits, and that’s exciting to me. I’m also getting both good and bad feedback and embracing the criticism to be more than better.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?
I’m looking for all the advice right now. Sweetie doesn’t be scared anymore. Reach with in and let go. You are your only obstacle, and with drive, faith and love of your passion, you will move the world.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
