Our readers would love to get to know you more Sarika. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?
I am a graphic design student that is also a fashion model, which others find unique that I can work in two different industries. I have collaborated with designers, photographers, make-up artists, fashion coordinators, stylists, and producers to achieve creative visions. I have also worked with strategic clients in the graphic design field to create digital layouts, advertisements, logo designs, business cards and much more. Not to mention I am only 18 years old.
Sarika, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
I began modelling through a club at my college called FIT Models and Stylists Association, where I received intense training in runway walking and where I collaborated with numerous teams of stylists, designers and make-up artists to create looks for fashion shows.
Who is your inspiration in life Sarika? How do you keep inspired?
My inspiration in life is well-known models in the industry. I keep inspired through attending fashion shows and maintaining a social media where I can track their lifestyles to follow in their footsteps.
We all make mistakes Sarika; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model ; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I have many model moments where I regret. In a fitting backstage for a fashion show, once I was styled by a team, I regret putting in my personal opinion on a specific outfit and trying to style it myself. This offended and upset the designer and led to me being taken off the model line-up.
Sarika , when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?
I prioritize my clients’ needs by giving them my full attention and respecting their requests for time scheduling used for fittings, photoshoots and more. My main tool for prioritizing a clients’ need is simple: communication.
Please tell us Sarika, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Model?
Attending a casting call and making sure I followed a strategic process in taking a headshot, measurements and filling out paper work.
Sarika, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
Through a styling meeting, I was unhappy on a vision and look assigned to me. I explained and elaborated on the vision to adjust the look aimed for to work better with the theme of the show in a respectful, easy tone.
Sarika, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
Catwalking in 10-inch heels where I got loud praises and compliments was my biggest accomplishment. Through practice, prior to the show I was completely nervous and fell countless times. On the day of the show I held my head high and successfully strut down the runway.
Sarika, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
Coming up with a makeup look for myself was a challenging task choosing from different hues, tones and shades. Deriving inspiration and mood boards were time-consuming. The look, in the end, was successful seeing my hard work pay off.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?
Confidence. Have pride in the colour of your skin, your ethnicity, race, and each component that makes up your identity. Don’t compare your features to any other models present.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state below what type of collaboration you are looking for?
