I am me; you are not. That is the Unique trait I am gifted with. Growing up I used to google 'Is it possible to become confident'. This makes me laugh now. I used to panic over answering a question in class; Now I teach group fitness classes. I believe in myself which seems to be rare in people these days. It is so rare that some people mistake it for arrogance, cockiness and weird.
Sarah, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
My passion is to do Great and encourage others to be great. I strive to work harder each day. I try to do more of the challenges I don't want to do but know I will benefit from rather than doing what is comfortable. For example this interview, I was tempted to lie in bed and Chill but instead I am here writing. Strange enough I am enjoying writing this now. My first photoshoot as two years ago. I was a member of a closed model group on Facebook and a photographer reached out in a post. He needed a last minute model as he had a cancellation. He had already arranged a makeup artist and booked a studio. Unsure if I was applicable for the position I built up the confidence to say " I am free to shoot". And so we shoot. I was extremely nervous and had no clue how to pose for a cute picture with a friend nevermind a photoshoot. I was lucky to have an amazing makeup artist who believed in me and said I could be a great model. I am doing a few more photo shoots since then. I decided to enter Miss Bikini Ireland. Why? I am a girl, I can wear a bikini. I want to prove that you can go from shy to confident by challenging yourself. I am still grinding and am aware on what improvements I want to make on myself.
Who is your inspiration in life Sarah? How do you keep inspired?
Lauren Tickner, Oh Fitness, Claire Mc Grath, Matthew Hussey. This is only a select few people, literally everyone Else I follow on Instagram inspires me. And all of those people on the YouTube motivation or inspiration videos I listen to. I realised one thing, The people you spend time around contributes to the person you become. It is similar to spending time in a foreign country we often come home speaking some works with a hint of their accent. I lost many friends. I felt alone even surrounded by company. I learned how not to feel lonely when alone. I decide to follow people I admired and would be proud of adding some of their personalities into mine because I love how they think. Once I changed my following on Instagram, I felt less alone. I could relate to other people similar to me I have not been exposed too often to 'real life'. Social media is extremely powerful.
We all make mistakes Sarah; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
My first photoshoot I did not move without guidance. If I were to do it again, I would let loose and experiment but more with poses.
Sarah, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
Who needs me the most? Whom do I need the most? Who was first to ask? Which is the most important to complete first?
Please tell us, Sarah, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Model?
Planing dates in advance. Writing down the date and trying not to change it.
Sarah, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
I had a chat before about how to lose weight. A Client was certain she must cut out all carbs and must sweet lots while doing cardio every day. The first thing to note is that a client is never wrong. I explained that I understand why she thinks this. I explained that she is right she will lose weight in doing this. I then explained a different approach to weight loss that I feel will benefit her more and suited her lifestyle better. I explained the belt benefits of doing what I thought and also the life benefits. She would be able to have more time to socialise and have fun rather than be extremely strict and district herself dramatically.
Sarah, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
On my third photo shoot, I decided not to wait for guidance on what to do for my next pose but to keep moving and trying new ones. I was very proud of myself. Sometimes the photographer will say oh no way not that on a certain pose, but some would look excellent.
Sarah, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
I decided on the location and type of shoot I done me and decided what I would wear for a fitness shoot I had. It was exciting getting to create a picture I would like. It was difficult not knowing if a photographer would be interested or not.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?
Breath, relax and move. Keep moving and trying new poses. Practice in front of a mirror. Reach out and ask for what you want instead of waiting for it to come your way. Get in touch with s photographer, makeup artist and so on. Be yourself and constantly strive to improve yourself and your performance all of the time. Be approachable and be able to take constructive criticism. I am still myself in the process of these steps and still have a lot further to go on my journey to reach my potential. Best of luck with your Model Career.
