State / Region

I studied ICT system manager and application manager and work for 18 years for Publicis advertising company. Since 2 years I started photographing concerts and models next to my full time job. Now I mainly photograph concerts and teen models. I set up some special photographing projects like kids with braces and are a great succes.

Our readers would love to get to know you more Robert. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?

People who come to me for a theme love to come back. It makes me unique that I mainly work out themes where people love to come for. It makes me unique by being creative.

Robert, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Photographer?

My passion as music and photography. I had the change to do this combination by photographing concerts for an small venue for 2 years. When after 3 gigs there was a summer stop, I started looking for models as it was like a virus and couldn't stop.

Who is your inspiration in life Robert? How do you keep inspired?

My big inspirations are Bart Heemskerk and Anton Corbijn. I keep inspired by keep looking to their work and getting better myself.

We all make mistakes Robert, we wish we could take back. Please tell us about a time being a Photographer , you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I once started photographing a model when the teen model said your lens cap is still on your camera.

Robert ,when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Photographer, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?

I work with a contract and say there is a maximum of 2 weeks. Most of the times I am quicker and always send 1 photo the same day to compromis. When it takes longer good communication is required.

Please tell us Robert, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Photographer?

2 times I had a model lying on a mattress and take pictures from above. Than I have to be creative by standing on a ladder.

Robert, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
Almost every time I have a photography job. I always want to get the best out of it and people. And I always communicate with my models and their parents and let them know in advance what I want to work out and people love my way of communication.

Robert please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Photographer. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share to everyone. What is it and why?
When Model Citizen started to contact one of my models for a photo I took.

Robert, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
When I had the creative idea to put a model in a body cocoon, a kind of huge panty out of one piece and pour over with syrup. I never could test before so I didn't know how it worked out but it was great, it looked very artistic.

What advice would you give to the people who wants to be successful as a Photographer?

In this time everybody can be a photographer. But photographing is not only photographing, it is also looking and work out what you want. You also have to be creative, people want to see unique things.Model Cover Photo 2: Babette Bakker
