Make-up Artist

ABOUT
I started in fine arts and got into makeup school, now I am going to Blanche Macdonald Centre. I am very interested and passionate in creating beautiful faces and looks. I would love to work with people who shares similar ideas.

Our readers would love to get to know you more Rachel. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?

I believe that everyone is beautiful and with makeup, they can rediscover themselves and enhance their natural beauty to become even more confident.

Rachel, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Make-up Artist?

I want to make people feel beautiful. I started going to Blanche Macdonald Centre.

Who is your inspiration in life Rachel? How do you keep inspired?

I love Bobbi Brown; she is my goal. I love watching other artists and knowing more about techniques I have never tried before.

We all make mistakes Rachel; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Make-up Artist, you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
There was one time when I volunteered for a beauty contest, both the pageant at my station and the key asked me to do the makeup the way I did not agree. At that time, I decided not to argue and did what they wanted, but if it ever happens again, I would politely convince them into letting me do what is best for the model.

Rachel , when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Make-up Artist, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?

I would do my best job on every one of them, but if that is not possible, I will spend the most time on the client who is most important in that certain event.

Please tell us, Rachel, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Make-up Artist?

Makeup artists often have limited time to do their job. To ensure that least mistakes are made, I like to swatch foundation on the skin and let it sit while I complete the eyes. That way, there is time to let the foundation sit and oxidize to its final shade, so I will be clear about what it would look like finally without wasting time.

Rachel, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
I told them my honest opinion.

Rachel, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Make-up Artist. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
It might not be anything big to someone else, but it was such a pleasure to me. There was a time where I did makeup for a 12-year-old girl with disabilities. She was one of the happiest little girls I have ever seen, and when I finished and soon handed over a mirror to her hand, she looked into it and gasped "WOW, I love it". It was a simple look that I did for her, yet she was so happy. I feel like I made her day, making her feel special and beautiful. Sometimes it is not about how it looks, but about how it feels. That is what I believe.

Rachel, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
The difficult part was the props. I was responsible for making the props, and that part was difficult. I was making a flower crown for the model. I never knew that pretty much no glue can stable fake flowers, and I have never met the model and did not know her head size, I was struggling and running from store to store until the last minute. I learned that I should always everything prepared beforehand, but even if I do, accidents can still happen and you will have to change everything.

What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Make-up Artist?

It is more important to how the client feel than it is to your final product. They would look confident and beautiful if you made them feel that way.

Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state below what type of collaboration you are looking for?
Yes, I am looking for photoshoots of beauty looks or something more on the editorial side.
