Pranita, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Make-up Artist?
Have always loved colors. I started early , I work as a flight attendant, and I use make up for daily routine, and I learnt to mix and blend while I was getting ready for work and then I understood this is it! I am a pro at this. Had to join the institute to brush up my skills and I was pretty quick in catching up new scales and practised a lot to make it happen.
Who is your inspiration in life Pranita? How do you keep inspired?
I look upon to the man of wisdom Swami Vivekananda. Never stop learning. While you get an education , don't stop educating others. I teach makeup in my past time.
We all make mistakes Pranita; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Make-up Artist; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
Well, my best friend had two cats . 1 was a Persian, and the other was a Scottish fold. I loved the Persian one as it was friendly and a people's pet, other one was extremely shy and would run away every time I visited her, and it did not look cute at all, in fact, looked very scary. My friend kept telling me she will come to you when she's comfortable with you. But it never happened. The way it used to look at me and run away was like as though she saw an evil witch. One day my friend put a drop of this same animal in her wats app, she considered it to be like a daughter, and I commented - can you put this dirty thing away and rather put the Persian baby. She got offended, and I didn't realise that, and I kept going on and on and said ugly things. Well since then and until today she doesn't talk to me. I insulted her beloved daughter. At first, I found silly , then later I kept a pet dog, and when some of my friends didn't like him, I understood what my friend might have gone through.
Pranita, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Make-up Artist, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
I always keep a casual meeting over a coffee and discuss the needs
Please tell us Pranita, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Make-up Artist?
Well, I had to make sure that I get certified, so people don't take me for granted. In some places certificates count, they don't respect self-learning people
Pranita, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
Once I had a photoshoot for a model who wanted only nude looks for her profile. I insisted her to try a bold look with glitter eyes and with a lot of doubts and low confidence she agreed to it and until today that's her fav look
Pranita, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Make-up Artist. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
My mom is 70 yrs old and has never used makeup in her life. I did make up for her for the 1st time on my engagement day, and she loved it and Was proud to flaunt herself and my art.
Pranita, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
There was this Mr perfectionist photographer who had worked in many fashion shows in London. He called me once for a profile photo shoot for a model, and he would comment on every move I make. He would comment so much that I would feel like saying - if you know so much of makeup why don't you do it yourself'. But I had to keep my calm and just do things my way. I told him to handle his angle and let me handle mine. When we wrapped up the shoot, he came to me and said good job, love your confidence.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Make-up Artist?
Keep practising, educating yourself; there's no end to learning
