I can live in the moment. When I am having lunch with my friends, I do not think about how late I was that morning. And when I go back home to study in the evening I do not think about the lunch I had with my friends. I live in the moment.
Philisiwe, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
My passion is to look good 100% of the time and to get positive feedback from whatever I share with others. Whether it be a lesson or a simple statement. My aspiration in life is always to have the skill to learn. I dread the day I go to a certain place or meet someone and gain no knowledge. I will not improve as a person; I will not grow.I started out by applying with a modelling agency called Louis B Model Management.
Who is your inspiration in life Philisiwe? How do you keep inspired?
Sarah Jakes Roberts is my inspiration at the moment. I am a Christian and Godly-woman. I pray to speak to God and meditate to listen to him. I do this daily. I am inspired by the reality that I have so much energy and vibrancy overflowing from within me. I just never run out of my fuel, and I would love to share that with the rest of the world.
We all make mistakes Philisiwe; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
There was a time when a photographer was late for our appointment, and I acted like I was okay with it. Then 14 days later I vented. I should have vented on that first day or at least let him know of my unhappiness because of him being unprofessional.
Philisiwe, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
The most important thing is that I try not to stress so I can think clearly. I use loyalty to guide me. If I have worked with you before I will prioritise you because I know the kind of person that I am dealing with. I also find out if the client wants the shoot for satisfaction or importance purposes.
Please tell us Philisiwe, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Model?
There was a time when I had two photo shoots in one week. I used distance to prioritise. So I went to the one furthest from me first and the other one second.
Philisiwe, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
One of the hardest things in life is to make someone see their wrongdoing, admit to it and apologise for it. The photographer who was late managed to see my view though and apologise.
Philisiwe, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
My first photo shoot in a body suit was quite an accomplishment for me. I have always been insecure about being dark toned and having stretch marks. As I posed for these pictures though I overcame that fear and was just worried about portraying my talent to the best of my ability.
Philisiwe, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
My first photoshoot in Randburg. I had to jump like a kid and sway my skirt to portray innocence. I enjoyed just having fun and not having to worry about what the world has to say. Too many times we fail to live our best lives in fear of others opinions of us.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?
This industry can be quite daunting for most of us. There's a lot of rejection and competition that one has to come to terms with. The trick is not to give up easily. To understand that someone will always take your spotlight, but that just means you have to be continuously creative. When you wake up, you need to have ideas of how you are going to win people's eyes already.
