Creative Director

ABOUT

What is unique about me is I am a jack of all trades. I went to modelling school growing up, so I have experience in front of the camera also. I took photography in high school and learned how to develop photos, and I took sewing classes. So on set if there is a rip I can fix it or an extra cameraman needed, I'm right there to assist in every area.

nikiy, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Creative Director?

My passion and aspiration in life are to inspire others positively. I want to make people know that everything is possible no matter what you start with. Because I am well versed in many areas of Fashion, it took me a while to figure out where I belonged and I realised I liked to do it all; come up with a story and put the pieces together to tell it. So Creative Directing is perfect for me.

Who is your inspiration in life nikiy? How do you keep inspired?

My inspiration is my close friend. She is a mom, student, worker and intern. She makes it all seem so effortless, so focused on continuing to live out her dreams while being one of the best moms I know.

What keeps me inspired is kids. I honestly believe kids are the future and if I can inspire at least one child to create something special to last in this world forever, then my job is completed.

We all make mistakes nikiy; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Creative Director; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.

Hmmmm a mistake I have made so far is being afraid to speak up and allowing others to take over my vision and then not being happy with the result. I am a very collaborative person, so it can sometimes be a challenge to be open to input and still keep my vision clear. Once it happened the first time, I have been very adamant about speaking up.

nikiy, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Creative Director, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?

I am used to hosting things. So I use the great hospitality that I use when I am a host to cater to everyone needs and make sure that everyone is clear on their roles. I always send out clear instructions prior to a shoot, and I reiterate those tasks before we get started. I go in order of importance. So I focus on the most important thing first then I tackled the small things.

Please tell us nikiy, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Creative Director?

A recent Campaign shoot for a boutique, there was a last minute switch of photographers and extra people on set trying to all direct the models. I had to pause everything and give an announcement of who the new photographer was and the other one was now background, then I told the models exactly what I needed from them. That helped the flow of things.

nikiy, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.

Working for corporate, I have learned to come with reasons behind your thought process. So I always present an idea with a why, and it becomes clear for all parties involved and with a good why, I can persuade a person to see things the way I do.

nikiy, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Creative Director. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you want to share with everyone. What is it and why?

My proudest moment was being featured in my very first magazine. It was a moment of reassurance that I can do this!

nikiy, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?

I always feel that I am Creative with my work and that is what keeps things exciting for me.

What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Creative Director?

I don’t feel I am yet at a level as a successful Creative Director, but I will say keep going and learn your craft.
