Nathan Donoghue is a Canadian photographer who seeks to capture the beauty in the world around him.
Since 2015 Nathan has been traveling and capturing the scenery through which he walks. Nathan has stated regularly that complacency will kill him.
Nathan takes portraits as well as landscapes with a medium format, twin lens film camera.
Our readers would love to get to know you more Nathan. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?
I have always been obsessed with pirates. As a child, I loved the thought of becoming a pirate. Escaping reality, being free to travel the world and meet unique people from all walks of life. Get tattoos and have the sun on my face all day, read maps. It was a dream which I just couldn't shake.
As I got older, I realized that I might have been romanticizing piracy, just a bit. So, I thought to myself. "How can I do this, minus the pillaging?"
Around this same time, I was taking art classes and one of the assignments was a photography assignment.
I found my freedom in photography.
I found everything I was looking for. Travel, being outside, meeting unique people, and I could get all the tattoos I wanted.
I never looked back.
Nathan, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Photographer?
I love learning, I can't pack enough information into my brain. Travel is the ultimate learning experience, it is visceral and commands all of your senses; it stays with you forever.
I became a photographer because I'm a shit artist but have some neat ideas.
Who is your inspiration in life Nathan? How do you keep inspired?
I am inspired by anyone who doesn't care what others think.
We all make mistakes Nathan, we wish we could take back. Please tell us about a time being a Photographer , you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
Instead of editing a business portrait for a client, I went to Iceland for a holiday. You live and learn but I'll admit that wasn't great.
Nathan ,when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Photographer, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?
Listen. To. Everything. They. Say. But also, you're the professional, take some initiative and go above and beyond the call of duty. If you set a deadline, that's your deadline, stay up late, wake up early. Get it done.
Please tell us Nathan, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Photographer?
You should always have some sort of a plan, and with practice you can make some things become a second nature, but just communicate with your subjects and take a moment to take a breath, don't be so frazzled, just relax.
Nathan, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
I had a client who absolutely demanded I used studio lighting, when there was a beautiful window there. "Professionals use flashes" was the rational I suppose?
While I agree, sometimes professionals use flashes, when there is beautiful natural light, you don't waste that. After a few natural light test shots, the client decided that the natural light would suit them just fine.
Nathan please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Photographer. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share to everyone. What is it and why?
I had some work displayed in South Africa while I was there. That was very surreal. Being 22 years old and having your art displayed in a gallery on another continent is pretty crazy.
Nathan, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
If you have a vision, execute. If you don't, adapt.
What advice would you give to the people who wants to be successful as a Photographer?
Just shoot, everything, never stop shooting.
Think about your photo before you take it.
Don't do what everyone else is doing.
Do whatever you want to do.
Quality over quantity.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state below what type of collaboration you are looking for?
I will do anything, I am a photography slut. I love meeting cool people and brands, I love people who care to create. Meeting people you can feed off of and who can feed off of you, that's the best.
Now for the best part Nathan! Please upload 5-10 photos so we can get to see your work.
