I'm me I see things from a different viewpoint. A different perspective is always healthy because you'll see that others may not get or understand. That in itself is a great way to express yourself. Understanding who you are and what you can bring to the world. I also make a bit of music which helps think and see things creatively. Whether it's a whole project or piece, there's a sound for it.
Mayar, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Designer?
Just to do and see how far I can take this passion of mine. I started as a designer the moment I told myself to do what I like. Not a lot of people live their own lives we always do what's safe or what society says is best for us to do. The things that aspire me are friends, family and music. Just creating something is rewarding to see it through from start to finish.
Who is your inspiration in life Mayar? How do you keep inspired?
Music and family. I might hear something get an idea or think Wow how do I make this sound wearable. But people like Dapper Dan, Kanye West, Tyler the Creator and old skool fit like Nike tracksuits are such an inspiration to work off.
We all make mistakes Mayar; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Designer; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
Not with a colleague per-say but there was a time I miscommunicated with printing shop. This lead to the end of our relationship.
Mayar, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Designer, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
Inform them of the potential waiting time and work towards completing the task on time. It's also important to keep them updated with what's going on. The best to
Please tell us Mayar, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Designer?
I was offered a last minute slot for a pop-up shop which I wasn't ready for. I had to carefully plan what samples to bring out and the best way to go about the pop as a whole. I was pushed to the limit getting my samples on time as well as promoting the pop-up and products correctly.
Mayar, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
For me, It'll have to be the first time I ever convinced a PR company to let me pull press loans from them. I made sure to present myself and what I stand for correctly.
Mayar, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Designer. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
The time Swizz Beats came into my pop up shop and complimented my clothes. He told me to keep it up too. It was a great moment.
Mayar, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
For me, it was when I got to work on my first line of customised pieces which I'll be releasing. The whole planning and making samples stage was exciting because people will often ask where I got it from not knowing it's a sample that I made.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Designer?
Be you! Know yourself find out what works for you and work on it. Did you get a weakness? Great! Turn that weakness into a strength or learn about it, so you're able to overcome it.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
I'm looking for natural collaborations when the time is right, and it makes sense for both parties. Collaborations like clothing collabs, photoshoots, trainers, etc.
