I'm 29 years old. Born and raised in Mexico. I have been a photographer for 7 years. I love to shoot fashion, product and beauty shots. I work in an editorial where there are several magazines so I have the chance and versatility to shoot very different stuff. Cars, food, fashion, makeup, nudes, sports, even a Christmas issue. I retouch my own photos. I use Lightroom and Photoshop.
My personal photos are a more dark type of photography. I like to use old Brownie cameras so I can give that old and hazy effect.
I have two hobbies: I am a woodworker and a knife maker. I have my studio at home so i can craft furniture and knives when I have the time. I don't see myself not being a photographer.

Our readers would love to get to know you more Mauricio. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?

I think that what makes me unique is that besides being a photographer I am a woodworker and i combine both things in my work. When I shoot food photography the table, the chopping boards, knives or other stuff is made by me and that gives a more controlled final shot. When I shoot fashion sometimes I create the sets where the model is. So combining my job with my hobbies is what makes me unique.

Mauricio, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Photographer?

My passion is art, not only photography. I love movies, books, music, everything that can inspire me to create something new. My aspiration in life is become a better photographer and travel the world working in different magazines.
I become a photographer because when I was younger my father who loves photography, told me that with my spare time I should enter photography school so I listened to hin and entered school photography. I loved it and now I am here.

Who is your inspiration in life Mauricio? How do you keep inspired?

I believe that anything can give you inspiration. A movie, a painting, a furniture, a song. The trick is to be open to inspiration all the time.
Never assume that you don't need it because our job is to create something new every time and that is not an easy job.

We all make mistakes Mauricio, we wish we could take back. Please tell us about a time being a Photographer, you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
Yes. My old assistant that now is my best friend and photographer is a very calm person and I am not. I an always moving around, making stuff, changing lights, retouching between makeup retouching etc...and there was one day when I told him to put another flash in the background. I think he might just take 3 to 5 min to install it and I was like quickly...move the model is coming and you are being too slow and then the makeup artist stare back to me and tells me...relax...I'm not done, I need like 15 more minutes. That day I understand that you need to be calm and always talk to your team so you don't rush things.

Mauricio, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Photographer, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?

I call a meeting before we start some can be on the same page. I ask everyone to tell me their doubts and i ask them mines. Then i assign a person of my trust so when they have questions they reach us, so we can change that in the moment and not later.

Please tell us Mauricio, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Photographer?

There was one time we have to do a fashion issue of 30 looks. Only one model and one makeup artist. We have only 4 hours because it was in a Zoo and the park opened at 10 am. I know I needed to be quick and precise so my assistant, the producer and i run like crazy while the model and makeup artist were working so we can see exactly where we were going to shoot each look. We put a timer so we don't go too long on each one. At last, everything worked out really good

Mauricio, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
It happens a lot. Sometimes the producers I work with suggest that the model would look great with an outfit in a place and you know that it would look better in another one. I just take the photo where they want and then put the model where I think she would look better. I show the difference and most of the time they agreed. Sometimes not but well, you cannot win every time

Mauricio, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Photographer. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
When I was in school one of my teacher was a freelance photographer that worked in a magazine where he always does the front covers. One day he arrived at school and I saw he was holding the magazine. I thought that it would be really great to shoot the front page of a magazine. When I started working as a photographer it took me 2 years but I got to shoot the front page of that magazine. I feel really proud that day

Mauricio, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
When I do beauty shots they let me be very creative so its a good thing. It's exciting because you get to make new things, new light, new makeup, new hairstyle, But if you get too creative but in a way, people do understand it because its just nonsense then you have failed. You need to make people understand there is a reason for what you just did.

What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Photographer?

Practice everytime. Don't focus on just some type of photography. Shoot everything, food, portraits, fashion, product. Use artificial and natural light. And try to be the best knowing that you are not but hoping one day you will be

Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands, and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
Everyone who wants to be creative and make new things
