Ðœy uniqueness is that I not only develop a concept, an assortment matrix and sketches, but I also create patterns, work out the technology. Because I'm in the design industry not so long ago, I have a fresh look; it's easy for me to move away from the rules and create something unique.
Maria, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Fashion Label?
My main passion is creating clothes. But I was scared to leave the accountant's job and start designing, so I decided to go to Berlin University of Arts and move to Germany - this reason seemed to be respectful for leaving work. Seven months of German for 4 hours a day (before I studied only English), homework, the final interview in Berlin - I was sure of myself, but ... did not act. As a result, I decided not to return to work, so I started TRU.M.
Who is your inspiration in life Maria? How do you keep inspired?
My inspiration in life is my husband. He believes in me and my dream, it's very encouraging. Travelling and meeting new people help me not to lose interest. The more people learn about me, the more confidence I gain. Their emotions and feedback inspire me.
We all make mistakes Maria, we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Fashion Label; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
At the very beginning, it is difficult to understand where the worthwhile, and where the offer, from which it is necessary to refuse. I would like to go back and with great attention to analyse partners; this would save us money.
Maria, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Fashion Label, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
All clients are equal for us, no prioritisation exists. Customs are processed in chronological order. And in peak periods we work day and night.
Please tell us, Maria, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Fashion Label?
This was the time at the very beginning when besides creating and designing, we had to look for factories for origin and retailers
Maria, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
I had to convince my family that creating a clothing brand is a serious deal. The older generation still believes that it is possible to earn money only at the plant.
Maria, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Fashion Label. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
The proudest professional accomplishment as a Fashion Label is that our first collection was exhibited in the pop-up store at the Moscow Fashion Week.
Maria, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
The most creative time for me is the development of a new collection. I just take a notebook and write down all the ideas that come to my mind - it's always fun and interesting, especially when we discuss it with the whole family. But you need to choose not just the most creative concept, but also commercially successful - it's always difficult.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Fashion Label?
I would advise you to be confident in yourself, that everything will turn out. Infect this confidence around, be able to present their ideas and constantly improve themselves, see the shortcomings in work and try to eliminate them.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state below what type of collaboration you are looking for?
We have not thought about it yet, but this is a good question. Probably we would like to release a few pairs of shoes to one of our collections together with one of the brands in this area.
