I like to try new things, unorthodox and out of the box. I experiment a lot with my actual shoot. I try different angles so my shots can be unique.
Mani, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Photographer?
My passion was to shoot macro shots of bugs in and around my house, that was what made me who I am today.
Who is your inspiration in life Mani? How do you keep inspired?
I try to check out every print ad and magazine shots every day. I'm sure that's what keeps me going on and be inspired.
We all make mistakes Mani; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Photographer; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
Well, sometimes trying to get things right while your lighting your subject and you look through the viewfinder and ask your assistant to move the light and when they don't do it right, I start yelling at them as they are not following the light by looking at the subject, they just move the light as per my direction, this gets me mad. I wish I were easy on them sometimes.
Mani, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Photographer, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
I take one assignment at a time, this way I can deliver to every client with my undivided attention to detail. My clients are very important to me, and Id like to keep them satisfied at all cost.
Please tell us, Mani, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Photographer?
When coordinating a fashion campaign for a clothing brand with a celebrity is when I figured if I am not strategic else I'm going to end up wasting a lot of time which I didn't have. So planning and executing is very important for every shoot.
Mani, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
During shoots I'd like to improvise for better output, thankfully I didn't need to persuade people much as I am very clear before the shoot with my pre-production. There was a time during a product shoot for a jewellery client when they wanted me to shoot the entire jewellery(product). I saw a whole different picture through my lens where I only suggestively had a part of the jewellery in my frame. The client(art director of an ad agency) insisted I don't waste time on the new angle. I quickly made adjustments and took a shot. He saw the final frame and told me that I was correct and I should go ahead with the new frame. Which gave us a successful campaign in the end.
Mani, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Photographer. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
Well the proudest moment for me would be a shoot for a very well established menswear client. I went to the meeting, and I had nothing but my non-commercial work in my portfolio. I told them the amount of experience I had as an assistant. They gave me an opportunity, and I planned, executed and delivered. When I delivered the final images to the client was the proudest professional accomplishment as of now. They were very happy, and I still shoot for the client.
Mani, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
After you do a few shots, you tend to run out of ideas. It happens to everybody. It doesn't mean that one is not creative, it simply means you are overworking, and you don't have enough time to brainstorm with yourself. This is a time I suggest you stop working and pay attention to even the smallest non-work related things. This works for me. It gets me back to being creative with new ideas.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Photographer?
Experience is very essential in my field. So get as much as experience possible. You could learn so many new things every day. Keep trying new things. Do not be stagnant at the type of work you take up. Try to fit in the trend, be a trendsetter.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
I would require fashion stylists for some shoots, talents, makeup artists and creatives for new ideas for future shoots. I would love to collaborate with you guys.
