ABOUT

I am a senior in college at Colorado State University, and I am going after my Bachelor's degree in science of nursing. Something very unique about me is my passion and love for the sport of hockey. I help run the Colorado State University hockey team and its the highlight of every school year. The sport does not get enough credit in my opinion, it's such a tough and aggressive sport, and it's so fun to watch.

Makenna, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as Influencer?

I aspire each day to become the best nurse that I can be. I have 2 more years until I get my bachelor degree and I wish I could click my heels, and I could start now! I started as a fashion and brand influencer through Instagram. I used to be in a sorority, and it is a requirement that every girl follows one another on Instagram, and that grew my following a lot. I also gained followers from other Colorado State University peers. Then, I would get messages from friends who want to be photographers who would do shoots with me, and it started there. Now brands message me, and I get all these fun treatments and clothes and products for free or discounted, just for a shout out on social media!

Who is your inspiration in life Makenna? How do you stay inspired as an Influencer?

My biggest inspiration is my momma. She has been my rock through the hard times growing up, and she's the coolest lady in the whole wide world in my eyes. As an influencer, I am inspired by Aspyn Ovard. I edit all of my pictures with her Lightroom presets, and I love the vibe of her Instagram and the brands she promotes.

We all make mistakes Makenna; we wish we could take back. What was the mistake you made in the past that you wish you can take back?

One mistake I wish I could take back was not pursuing modeling. I love to be in front of the camera and to work with brands. I was told by so many agencies that I was too short though because I am 5.4'. That crushed my modeling dream, and I gave up and put it out of my mind. Now I realize that the modeling world is so much more than just that. Cool pictures and different product promotions and social media do not discriminate on height.

Makenna, How do you describe yourself in terms of working with clients?

I am usually the client in most situations. I work a lot with companies, and I do a lot of Rep work. I love working with all different kinds of people and different brands though.

Please tell us, Makenna, how do you prioritize work, social life, friends, and family?

School and family always come first. Going for my BSN, that has to be my main priority over going out and being with my friends. I also am very close with my family, so that also takes a lot of time away from my friends as well. When hockey season starts, I put in about 20 hours a week with the guys, so that is my social life!

Makenna, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.

I am a very optimistic person. I like to see a roadblock or other opinions that I don't agree on and talk about it. I am never one to sit back and allow something to continue at work if I don't like it. I like it when everybody is on the same page and can come to a middle ground.

Makenna, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as an Influencer.

Recently, as my social media followers grow, I have received some discounts and free opportunities with companies who do beauty treatments. I just recently got my teeth whitened for free, my hair colored for free, and I work with many small and upcoming brands to make their business grow!

Makenna, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?

What I like about what I do is I can pick and choose and be creative with what I promote. I have a very easy going, hippy vibe to me and so I only pick brands and companies that I truly believe in. I can pick clothing companies that I know my following will wear and like as well as me.

What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as an Influencer?

I would tell them to continue to post what you like. Be adventurous and take fun, goofy pictures, and be yourself. Its when you start to be like the general public where you lose a lot of prospective companies. People like people who stand out.
