Macarius. Tell us ABOUT yourself.
From a young age, I had the opportunity to travel and live in different areas of the world. Indulging myself in different cultures and people has brought to who I am today as a person, and as a creative. Currently based in Vancouver, BC.
I studied in SFU for Design and Finance, but now am on a mission to fulfil my creative ambitions to create, create, and create! (of course, make a living off doing what I love)
Macarius Chung specializes in:
- Fashion/Editorial Portraits Photography
- Brand Art Direction
Our readers would love to get to know you more Macarius. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?
A photographer? Sure, but I plan to be a lot of other stuff too! Growing up in a traditional Asian household, from a young age I was repeatedly asked the question, "what do you want to be when you grow up?" To this day this is a question I don't know the answer to. Frankly, if there's anything that makes me unique, it would be my principles of being okay with an ambiguous career label. Believe in yourself! And red bull...
Macarius, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Creative Agency?
I would love to become an established creative director that does all sorts of work. Not just photography, but graphic design, cinematography, directing. With that said, an ideal life would be working on creative projects to create something great for something with a great purpose. I started, Reify Movement, a creative agency, because I felt that I had a surplus of creative juices to be working a traditional 9-5. Simple said, I just want to create good work.
Who is your inspiration in life Macarius? How do you keep inspired?
I would say my biggest inspiration would be my friends. We all have different careers, all live in different countries, but have such a strong bond. Their support and their work ethics keep me going. I also believe that inspiration is everywhere: our experiences, our friend's experiences, our living conditions, our struggles and joys. Thus, I don't need to keep myself inspired, I just keep myself open to everything, and that becomes my inspiration.
We all make mistakes Macarius; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Creative Agency, you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I have yet to face a situation that I regret with my Creative Agency, but it's probably because we are at the early stages.
Macarius , when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Creative Agency, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?
I try not to prioritize depending on who the client is and instead try to always push out my best work regardless of the occasion. However, there are deadlines. I just try to pre-plan my time and do the best work I can for the amount of time I can allocate for that project.
Please tell us Macarius, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Creative Agency?
When dealing with multiple people on a project, it is key to be strategic in how you communicate with people to ensure there are no confusions. When the entire team's priorities are aligned, that's when we produce the best work.
Macarius, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
There are moments where people with different ideals clash in-terms of the workflow. Before I try to persuade someone, I try to keep a humble mentality and see things from their perspective. Many times, thinking like this allow me to learn from them and understand their ideas better allowing me to persuade them better and learn from their methodology.
Macarius, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Creative Agency. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
I would say, I am yet to have a "proudest moment," or even have a proud moment. I just try to do the best I can and keep working.
Macarius, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
In many of the shoots, I have the creative freedom not to only act as the photographer, but also a wardrobe and set designer. I find the whole process fun and exciting to reify what was in my vision to reality.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Creative Agency?
I don't know if I'm in the position to advise on this, but I would say keep your head down and hustle. Keep it positive too!
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state below what type of collaboration you are looking for?
Yes, I am always looking to help promote products and services that I think is awesome through visual mediums. Fashion, Music, Charity, you name it! I love collaborating. :)
