Lisa Michelle Dixon
I am a model, actress and photographer. I started training for modeling and acting when I was 12 years old and took on a professional career at 17. I decided to take some college courses for photography to enhance my modeling and managed to fall in love with the fact that I can now create my concepts from start to finish.
I have had the honor of modeling all over the USA, France, Ireland and UK. My goal is to change the fashion world by promoting to women with tattoos. It's amazing to inspire everyday people to be the best that they can be and I do not believe we should limit ourselves.
Our readers would love to get to know you more Lisa Michelle. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?
To get to know me more, it's best to know where I come from. I was raised in a dirt biker family, I have three brothers, and my mom is very sporty. I am a tomboy/metalhead at heart thanks to them. My best memories are riding dirt bikes with my dad and bros, going on night rides when the full moon was out and of course, concerts! Modeling is the most feminine side of me, but I try to bring a piece of my true self to everything I do.
Lisa Michelle, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
At 12 I wanted to be an actress. When I signed up for acting classes, they saw that my mom is 5'11 and my dad is 6'2 and said I should train for modeling as well. Then, I became so passionate about creating art in many different forms! I love when a photo can tell a story, make you question your realm of existence. As for aspirations, I want to change the world for better. I believe it starts with the little things we do every day.
Who is your inspiration in life Lisa Michelle? How do you keep inspired?
I have so many people who have inspired me to become a better human. My grandpa inspired me to be respectful to others. My dad inspired me to never give up on my dreams, no matter who told me I couldn't because they are not the ones in control of my life. My mom inspires me every day because of her continued support of everything I do! Most of all my brothers have inspired me to never change my true self.
We all make mistakes Lisa Michelle; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model, you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I believe mistakes are needed for us to improve. Without failure we never reach success. I can't say there's anything I'd go back and change because I have learned the most from those moments.
Lisa Michelle, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?
I'm so OCD with the organization. Fashion Week (as we all know) is probably the most difficult moments to keep organized in our business. Going from photoshoots to runway shows almost every day. Call times for runway shows ranging from noon-3pm. It's all about communication. Know who is organizing the show, who to contact if you're running late, advising your shoot coordinator about what time your fashion show starts and where in order to make sure everyone knows what is going on and when you need to leave. I have an organizer in my purse. I do not use my phone for it, as I'm much more organized via handwriting.
Please tell us, Lisa Michelle, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Model?
Every fashion week.
Lisa Michelle, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
As a model, it is my job to see things their way and make their image come to life! However, as a photographer, I get to control that atmosphere. I love to show model images while we work because I know when I see things through the camera as I'm the one modelling, it makes it easier to understand what the photographer is trying to capture.
Lisa Michelle, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
I lost my grandpa and one of my brothers in 2016. The hardest year of my life. At the beginning of 2017, I decided I would get my left forearm sleeved; the entire tattoo is a dedication to Jeffrey and Grandpa. Shockingly enough I have participated in more Fashion shoots and runway shows since I got the tattoo. Which is something I have always worried would limit my work. I remember S/S'18 LAFW during October 2017; running late from a photoshoot to show up 30 minutes before walk time to a fashion show. Running around trying on the designs and walking. Then to wake up for a shoot the next morning and another fashion shows the next night. I came home thinking "I wish I could tell Grandpa everything... for my dreams are still successful with tattoos and pushing 30 years old".
Lisa Michelle, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
I am currently working on a series for my photography, L Dixon Photos. It's called the "Out of Body Experience"; it's one of my most favorited series. It's always exciting to explain the concept to the model/actor and see what story they can come up with. The most difficult part is seeing the same story. However, that's one of the beauties of art.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?*
Work hard and never give up on yourself. Do not take rejection personally because even if one company doesn't like your look, the next one could love it. Find companies you work well with and build beautiful relationships with them!
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
Yes! I am looking to bring tattoos to fashion! Any brands or creatives that want to mix street fashion or couture with a tattooed model feel free to hit me up. I'd love to collaborate and show tattooed women fashion is also for them!
Now for the best part Lisa Michelle! Please upload 5-10 photos so we can get to see your work.
