ABOUT
I began modeling at age 16 in Minnesota and now have an agent here in Los Angeles. My passion in life is my music, I'm a singer/songwriter, but being in the fashion industry as a model has helped foster my visual creativity and my network. I've had my hair dyed bright blue in the past for Guy Tang, and I've done a local campaign for Lifetime Fitness. All in all, I love collaborating with other talents to create beautiful images and stories of self-expression. This industry can be rough on your self-esteem, but I find that I grow more as a person from being challenged; diamonds are made under pressure!

Our readers would love to get to know you more Lauren. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?

I am one of those weirdos who actually loves school and loves to learn because I am a truth-seeker. I realize that a lot of "truths" are merely subjective, but I aim to get to a point in my life where I am content because I've learned all I could possibly try to learn, and then spread that knowledge to the less fortunate who can't "afford" the education I was so blessed to receive. I love overthinking philosophical questions, and I recently became interested in political activism when I finished my Communication degree at the University of Southern California this year. I'm actually very glad my parents didn't let me get a music or theatre degree because I gained so much valuable knowledge about how our media cultures, politics, and economics all work to create the society we have today. So, to answer the question, what is unique about me is that I am not only a model and a singer but an intellectual with dreams of using my position of privilege to make the world a better place. Art helps us find the truth.

Lauren, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?

My passion is my music. My father is a singer-songwriter-guitarist-pianist like I am, and he taught me all he knows. I always wanted to make a career for myself in music so that my dad would be proud. He was too afraid to pursue his music dreams full time, but he is so very talented, so I take it upon my myself to have no fear in pursuing music because I don't want to have regrets like he does. Modeling came as an afterthought to music because I figured it would help get me "out there". I have also been acting in musicals and the like since I was a child, so you could say the arts have always been a part of me.

Who is your inspiration in life Lauren? How do you keep inspired?

As I have mentioned previously, my dad is my biggest inspiration. When I wrote my first songs, he would cry tears of joy and encourage me to write more. He's such an inspiration because he is majorly talented, but also majorly humble about it. He plays his music because he loves to do it, not for money or recognition. Looking forward, I keep inspired by seeing other music artists make their way, and think to myself, "if they can do it, so can I!"

We all make mistakes Lauren, we wish we could take back. Please tell us about a time being a Model, you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
This happened recently actually, where I booked a modeling gig by myself and didn't ask for cash upfront. The photographer said he was going to venmo me when he got home, but it has now been 2 weeks without payment. You live and learn I guess, and I learned that I shouldn't be so trusting of people in LA, haha!

Lauren, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?

Different clients want different things such as certain hair lengths and body sizes. I've found that I can't make every brand happy, but I'm not supposed to. I will fit with certain clients with my look now, and I could work with a whole different type of client in the future. I prioritize my own needs above the clients' mostly since I don't want to spend my time worrying about how I should be perfect for every single client when that's just not possible.

Please tell us, Lauren, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Model?

I've had to be strategic for the past 6 years or so in the sense that I need to have part-time work to supplement my modeling/music career without hurting it. It's hard to find a balance between "real work" and my artistic work, and it really sucks when you can't book that huge gig because of your day job.

Lauren, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.

Lauren, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
My proudest accomplishment as a mode would have to be the time I was a hair model for Guy Tang. I overcame my fear of changing my hair drastically, and it was my highest paid gig yet. It was also one of the most professional photo studios I had ever been in, and we had catered food, so I felt pretty fancy. :)

Lauren, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
I am in the process of releasing an EDM single and wanted to create my own cover artwork. It's exciting to be in control of how my image will be perceived by the rest of the world, but it was also challenging to know that my own work will probably be judged. I was the art director for both the photo shoot that I was the model for and the graphic design of the final image. I'm proud of it, but there's always that little voice of doubt saying "it could look even better!"

What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?

I would say that you have to numb to rejection. You're going to get rejected so many times, as everyone has, but you've got to keep your head in the game and keep pushing forward no matter what. Always know you are beautiful and valuable, no matter who tells you-you're not.

Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands, and creatives? If yes, please state below what type of collaboration you are looking for?
Yes, I am interested in being a brand ambassador for fashion lines. I could use a brand partnership for my music.
