ABOUT

I am interested in horror. I developed an interest in special effects makeup a few years ago and loved it! Turning people into zombies is one of my favourite pass times.

Laura, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?

I started modelling after being an audience member on a YTV show. I guess that's how I was "discovered." My aspirations with regard to the model are to one day be a Cover Girl! Outside of modelling, I would love to work for an animation studio.

Who is your inspiration in life Laura? How do you keep inspired?

One of the models I look up to is Stacey Mckenzie. I think she is unique in both personality and appearance. She owns everything she does with style and flare.

We all make mistakes Laura; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.

LOL yes! One of my first castings I was not really myself. I was more closed off and try by the book. I learned that it's better not to get a part but to remember. So always be your crazy, wild, beautiful self.

Laura, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?

Always being on time is a priority. The modelling world moves very quickly, and you can always be replaced. Show up early, confident and ready to shoot.

Please tell us, Laura, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Model?

As a University student, juggling modelling and school can be difficult. It's always best not to spread yourself to thin. I try to schedule things as far in advance as possible.

Laura, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.

I did one runway show once that was all day. The designers and makeup artists of the show were provided with food and drinks but, the models were not. I spoke with my designer who agreed that it was unreasonable to expect us to go all day without food and she ordered us all (including girls who weren't her models) food and took the matter up with the show organisers so it would never happen again.

Laura, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you want to share with everyone. What is it and why?

I was the face of America for the 2015 PAN AM Games, hosted in Toronto. Each nation participating in the games had someone from Canada representing them. Getting to be part of such a multicultural and important event was truly spectacular. I got to represent my heritage (American) and my home (Canada).

Laura, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?

Every shoot requires creativity with posing and facial expressions. One of the most creative shoots I modelled for was a submission to a hair competition where I represented water. I had to capture the fluidity and grace of water, all while wearing a giant wig and hairpiece.

What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?

Be yourself. Every agent, acting director, magazine, makeup artist, photographer are all looking for something different. Don't let any rejections get you down because there will always be more opportunities.

Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state below what type of collaboration you are looking for?

I am open to working with anyone. I have a preference for calibrations that have really strong creative concepts.
