I'm a go-getter! I'm the only girl with four brothers, so I've had to learn how to speak up for myself and how to go for what a want, even with people that are louder and bigger than me.
Keara, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Photographer?
I started as a photographer by simply taking photos. Any friends, siblings or animals that would let me take a photo of them, I did. My passion is to be creative in life! I want to do something in the creative field for the rest of my life.
Who is your inspiration in life Keara? How do you keep inspired?
My mother is my ultimate inspiration. She graduated from Vet school at 22, one of the youngest in her graduating class, and she now owns her own business, which she did while raising five children. Even though our aspirations in life couldn't be more different, she reminds me to love what I do, and fight for it.
We all make mistakes Keara; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Photographer; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I'm pretty young and haven't worked with very many other photographers but the mistakes I have made, and I wish I could have done differently, is to speak up for myself and my work as well as making what I want clearer to those around me.
Keara, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Photographer, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?
I take a deep breath. It's hard to remember when your juggling multiple things to take a deep breath and compartmentalise. I lay out a plan and get to it. Procrastination and not taking a second to think are the enemies.
Please tell us Keara, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Photographer?
With wedding photography, sometimes you can have multiple thousand photo weddings stacked on top of each other. Throw in senior sessions or side projects, and it can be hard to prioritize. I always get the small projects done first and quickly, and then set to work on the big ones.
Keara, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
Whenever I've had to try to get someone to listen first to what they have to say and understand where they are coming from and their motives before trying to pitch my ideas. I've found that this makes it easier for more creative ideas to be heard, and better for communications
Keara, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Photographer. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
Albuquerque is a middle sized city in New Mexico, with some amazing photographers who do national campaigns all the time. It's amazing that these photographers that I have looked up to a lot of my career, like my work and on some occasions have asked for advice. That changes my whole world
Keara, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
With styled model shoots, I get to style the model, pick location and even sometimes do their makeup (although I prefer just to give my ideas to a makeup artist) Sometimes its hard because you don't know how an idea is going to turn out, or if you had a clear vision, but when it turns out its the most amazing feeling.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Photographer?
Shoot! Shoot anything and everything. Don't wait for opportunities to shoot to come to you. Contact models you want to work with, grab your friends and do shoots. You learn something new every time you shoot.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
Any collaborations would be amazing! I love working with new people and brands.
