My name is Mikayla, but I go by Kayla for my stage name, I’m 17 years old from Michigan. I’m working on trying to get myself more out there for print/editorial modeling taking every opportunity that comes my way, and I also love Fashion I want to not only be a model but a Fashion Designer and hopefully one day I meet my favorite designers Vera Wang, Jason Wu and Jason Mimran just for the fact that their designs are really inspiring especially Jason Wu and him being pretty young and based in NY.
Our readers would love to get to know you more Kayla. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?
What makes me unique would have to be me being able to stand out. I don’t try to “fit in” with the crowd I believe being yourself is the best way to go simply for the fact that if I tried to be anyone else it’d be fake. I like being different, wearing things no one else would want even to wear then seeing how I can inspire so many people just to step out and be themselves is amazing. I’m just a typical girl chasing a dream that I’ve always wanted since I was 7. I’m ambitious and hardworking, and that is what keeps me going every day knowing that I’m closer to my goals, even when I get shot down I never give up I just get up and go through the back door. I’m never afraid to try new things because the more you try, the more you get to know yourself in a sense.
Kayla, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
My aspirations in life would have to be knowing that all the hard work I’ve been putting in finally paid off, knowing that all the let downs were just preparing for something bigger and better. To know that my dreams would be a reality I do every day would just be amazing and I would never want to stop working harder to become better at the dream I accomplished. I wasn’t always a Model, I started off at an agency to get practice on how to walk a runway, take print photos even taking acting classes so I could know how to use my face in pictures and all of that just led up to me being offered different opportunities I’m going always to be thankful for because all I wanted/want is to show what I can do. I believe everyone deserves an opportunity.
Who is your inspiration in life Kayla? How do you keep inspired?
My inspiration would have to be Zendaya; she’s so amazing and beautiful inside and out, I’ve looked up to her since “Shake It Up”. She’s not just an actress she’s a model, and she has her clothing line, she’s very hard working, and I wanna be where she is in life very successful at everything she does especially print modeling.
We all make mistakes Kayla; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about a time being a Model; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
There honestly isn’t a time I had a confrontation with a colleague simply for the fact that I haven’t gotten the chance to be on an actual set to shoot, I’ve just done Instagram “advertising”.
Kayla, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?
If I were in that situation, I’d just have to be calm and not let the stress of so many clients get to me because the job would never get done if I’m stressed. I’d just have to work promptly to get everyone satisfied in the way they need to be.
Please tell us, Kayla, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Model?
I haven’t encountered any of these problems since I am just starting and I don’t have much experience on the part of the field yet.
Kayla, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
It’s all about getting in their head in some way making them believe your way is the better way for that moment. Even if you have to ask other people their opinion just to show them that they need to take that specific route.
Kayla, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
I haven’t had any huge professional moments, but I was very excited when I was reached out to by two different brands a clothing brand and a jewelry brand because it showed me the hard work I’ve been putting in is finally paying off and people see it as well.
Kayla, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
When I’m trying to figure out a knew sketch to make it’s really hard in a way because you wanna be different you don’t want your designs to look similar to another designer and even though I’m working towards being a print model designing is a really big part of that and apart of what I’m working to accomplish.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?*
Just work hard. Never give up because you didn’t get a certain modeling job you wanted because there are more out there just like the one you went to. Know that you’re beautiful no matter what and it doesn’t take someone “skinny” to be a better Model than you because models come in all shapes and sizes just like Ashley Graham.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
I’ve always wanted to collaborate with 17 Magazine, Teen Vogue, Elle, Maria Claire and so many more just to be able to model a well-known designers clothes and be in a top magazine would be amazing especially if I were to be the cover or one of the stories in the magazine.
Now for the best part Kayla! Please upload 5-10 photos so we can get to see your work.
