ABOUT
I went to school for four years changing my major to music performance, to music education, adding music therapy, and then ending with a BA in music. When growing up my life was music, and that was all I could think of spending my life doing. I spent all day every day practising my flute and learning every instrument under the sun. However, as I grew up and gained experiences outside of music, I fell in love with the medical field.I have a strong passion for working with disabilities and working in the medical field. I worked at a facility where I cared for children and adults with a large variety of diagnosis'. I was on the management team this past year and planned all of the activities and supervised the counsellors and activities. I also ran the children's program at this facility. This place CHANGE MY LIFE. I would not be who I am today without these experiences.Once I completed school, I moved to Miami to support my boyfriend while he was completing his master of jazz studies at the University of Miami. Simultaneously, I was taking prerequisite courses to prepare for nursing school. While I was in Miami, I began nannying for a Russian family and lived in Russia with them for two months! It was quite an adventure! Once we returned, I began nannying for another family who was natives of Miami. Now I am back home in Pittsburgh working for another family from India and saving up money to go to nursing school. I am also looking into modelling agencies to see where this other passion of mine can take me!
Kathryn, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
My passions in life are working with disabilities, caring for those in need (relating to the medical field), as well as modelling. I began modelling just for fun with a friend, and I received a lot of support and great feedback. I then decided to make a model mayhem account and see where it could take me. I met up with many different photographers, and it was a lot of fun! However, life got in the way, and I was unable to continue with that during that time of my life. This past year I have been able to get back into modelling, and I have loved it all over again! I really would like to see where this path could lead. I keep telling myself..it's either now or never! I know I will regret it if I don't at least try and see if I can make it as a model.
Who is your inspiration in life Kathryn? How do you keep inspired?
Recently? To be honest, it has been Jennifer Lawrence. She is honest, she is kind, she makes light out of all situations, she stands up for herself, she is strong, and she doesn't let others opinions bring her down. In the world that we live in we, need to stand up for ourselves, and we need to show kindness even when there is hatred around us. I stay inspired because I have a goal I am working towards. I want to do something big with the life I was given and to help those in need. I want to inspire girls who get told that they can't do something purely because they were born a girl. There are so many things that I want to do. But ultimately I want to spread love and positivity to the world around me.
We all make mistakes Kathryn; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
Honestly, I have had all great experiences when modelling. However as a performer in music I have had many situations that could have been handled differently. When I was first beginning college, I did not take constructive criticism very well. I would obsess over it and let it bring me down rather than take what was said to me and work hard to improve. I believe that this also applies to modelling. There has been already and will be times when I will get constructive criticism, and I should never take it personally. It isn't a personal attack, and the comments are only made to make me better.
Kathryn, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
I am new to the modelling world, so I have not experienced something like this as of late.
Please tell us, Kathryn, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Model?
Again, I am new to this in the modelling field. However, I double majored in music education and music therapy, and this took A LOT of planning. I took more than 21 credits, had to find time to practice three instruments daily, complete homework and study for exams, and I held three jobs. It took a lot of planning far in advanced and powering through those semesters.
Kathryn, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
I believe if you take the time to understand their side of things, and you show that you do understand where they are coming from, the other person will be more receptive to what you have to say. Once I have shown that I understand where they are coming from, I explain why I would like to do things a specific way. If we clash still after that, I will continue to give reasons on why things need to go my way. Compromises are key to a successful workplace. Not everything can be done your way all of the time and both sides need to understand that.
Kathryn, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
I did a shootaround Wynwood, Miami and had an amazing time. The photographer posted the photos on Instagram, and a clothing line saw me and messaged me! They said that they had to have me at their event next week to model their clothing line! It was such a surprise, and I was so excited! It was a lot of fun, and I met many great people during this event.
Kathryn, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
I have liked that most of my photographers have given me the freedom to choose what to wear for my shoots. I research the area and imagine what style I think would be great for that area. Then I open up my closet, take a million things out, and begin to mix and match and figure out the perfect combinations.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?
Put yourself out there! I am late to the game because I never thought I could be successful and was too nervous. If you love it that will show!
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
I'm honestly up for anything!
