I am an unorthodox being and a Multi-talented individual. Not only do I do art, but I also dance, and I do martial art tricking. Which are Martial arts and Breakdancing put together? I am a highly driven person. That is not unique, but I am willing to work twice as hard to get what I want, and I find that unique, Tell me I can not do something and see what happens.
Karabo, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
My passion is Modelling, Music and Art. Just creating in its entirety. My aspirations in life are to become a film director and a superhero, Just Kidding but I would love to be an action star and a Luminary being. My Modelling story begins in the South of Johannesburg, I was gaming with my friend, and he said "You need to be on Men's Health or something cause your body is Shredded", and that is when I decided to research on the modelling world. I found an agency and emailed them and got rejected but instead of flat-out rejecting me, they referred me to another agency called the Model Republic. I emailed Nikki Petersen, and we organised a meeting, and I got signed on the spot. She groomed me and taught me about the industry. Later she got appointed as senior Booker for Fanjam Model Management down in Cape Town, and she believes in me so she told the Owners of the agency about me and They liked my look. I could say the rest is history, but I still got history to make, so I'll say greatness is pending.
Who is your inspiration in life Karabo? How do you keep inspired?
I do not particularly have a "who" inspiration but what inspires me is the future. I know Greatness is pending so I am inspired by how I can change my life and the life of those around me. But if I had to choose a who it would be Tyson Beckford, the Funny story is that my 1st casting as a model, the Director called me Tyson because of my narrow eyes. How I keep inspired is I read stories of the underdog because I feel like an underdog myself and The future keeps me inspired, I was destined for greatness, I just have to actualise all my dreams.
We all make mistakes Karabo; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I do not particularly have a colleague based incident but casting based, I was studying for exams and had gotten a casting call for a very big brand in the fashion industry. My phone was far away, and I was consumed with the books and lost out on casting , I could say would have given me, my "big break".
Karabo, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
I ask I ask, I ask! Whether for the brief or ask the director or photographer. I ask, yes I come prepared but if they need more, I need to know what they need so I can deliver. I also have a good relationship with my agent, if ever I am lost, I just Hit her up, and she guides me through it.
Please tell us Karabo, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Model?
It was my 1st fashion show, and I had an assignment for varsity due on the same day. I had to choose work all night and hand in then arrive looking like a zombie, but instead, I just slept and woke up fresh and did it on my way there and while we had broken during rehearsals and fittings,
Karabo, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
I do not have to persuade anyone, I live on you either about it or you not.I am normally a self-development and spread love type person. I inspire most people around, so I hardly need to persuade.
Karabo, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
Walking at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Reasons being that by Modelling standards I cannot be a runway model because I am just a few centimetres under 6" but My persistence and resilience to not giving up prevailed. Special thanks to Nikki Petersen and Deon Redman for believing in my look.
Karabo, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
A Shoot where I had to do break dancing poses and hold them while facing the camera and still having to worry about portraying my best features.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?
I cannot particularly give success advice because I don't think I am successful as of yet, but greatness is pending as I say. But I can say this No does not mean no, it means not right now so keep trying.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
I am craving to do an international Campaign with a major fashion stable
