I started picking up the camera when I was just 13 years old. Since then I have more opportunities and experience than most professional photographers. I look forward to going to photography school and studying in a fashion or creative department, gaining more experience and memories!
Kaitlyn, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Photographer?
When I was 13 we, were moving away from our farm that I grew up on. I used the camera to capture all the aspects of that place that I love so much. I look back on the photos and I love them, they might not be great, but they are symbolic to me! Ever since then I have captured the same memories for different companies and families.
Who is your inspiration in life Kaitlyn? How do you keep inspired?
My inspiration is my family and the photographers I have gotten to know over the past couple years. My mom always keeps me going with ideas and even some tips, while I follow some of my favourite photographers on Instagram and Facebook.
We all make mistakes Kaitlyn; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Photographer; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
While I worked for CODIO Photography, I remember my boss asking me to make some phone calls to old clients to see if they will pick up their child's soccer photos from years past. I vividly remember saying to one voicemail "will you ever pick up your child's photos.", After hanging up I felt awful for saying it, the words didn't mean to come out the way that they did, once they called back I, apologised and they laughed and said it was ok. I will from now on be careful with my words and stop of I am getting too tired.
Kaitlyn, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Photographer, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
I make sure they I have a good idea of what they want ahead of time. While I am shooting, I keep that list nearby, while I edit I make sure I send a couple of photos as soon as I get home, so they know what they have.
Please tell us, Kaitlyn, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Photographer?
As a student and a busy photographer, I have to make sure I complete everything, within the deadline. It is hard, but that's when I make a list of everything that I need to get done and scratch it off when it is completed.
Kaitlyn, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
When I worked with Mike and Scott, Scott had an idea of using a projector on one of his models, I had suggested a couple of ideas on what to do with the projector, he gracefully accepted them, and the shoot turned out great.
Kaitlyn, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Photographer. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
I remember shooting the Scotia bank Marathon In Calgary, and after the people ran a marathon or two, when they were asked to smile and hold up their medal their smiles lit up the world it seemed!
Kaitlyn, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
I had the opportunity to get a bunch of my closest friends together for a project called The Friendship Project. It was so exciting, and I was thrilled getting most of my friends in the same studio/room. The difficulty was getting almost everyone there on a day that worked for everyone and I, also finding a studio that would fit us all.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Photographer?
Try. Try again and never give up. If you don't try, you'll never know.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
Yes, I am looking to collaborate with fashion talents, brands and creatives.
