Juarez McMiller Santiago
What I can say more about myself is that every fashion project I work on rather the project includes my skills as a photographer, stylist, mum, model scout, or creative project manager. I put my passion and heart into every project instead paid and personal. Most fashion projects require a team to make it work, and this is where I thrive. I have years of experience building and working with teams. Many times, I had to be an entire team from photographer to mua/hair stylist to launch a creative fashion project. Now, I work with many talents and creative people who make up my teams on various projects. Best advice: Learn to work with teams.
Juarez, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Photographer?
My passion will be to continue to grow as a photographer overall. I aspire to tell my peoples stories through video/photography and perhaps find a way to do some good in the world using my passion (photography).
Who is your inspiration in life Juarez? How do you keep inspired?
My inspirations in life are people who have made a change in the world through fashion, photography, music, video, and social issues. For example, Richard Avedon, Nelson Mandala, and David Bowie. I keep inspired through listening to music, talking with friends, taking long walks, and long drives.
We all make mistakes Juarez; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Photographer; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
Yes, I was feeling a little sick the day before a photo shoot. I had a client who wanted to have some of her clothing styles shot - it was a trade for pay shoot. In other words, no pay. Nevertheless, by the next morning, I was sick, so I called my client and cancelled. I regret that I wish I had notified my client the night before rather than waited.
Juarez, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Photographer, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
My process for prioritising my clients' needs is proper planning. Don't take on more than I can do, even if I have to decline a project. Also, break up or chuck a large number of projects within the projects.
Please tell us, Juarez, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Photographer?
The best method I've found to be strategic to meet top priorities is to understand the importance of time management. Strategic time management has helped me know when to expedite strategies in the written process for a project/client.
Juarez, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
Can't give a specific example. However, I can say that for me a successful persuasion I've used included the benefits and cost saving in my proposal.
Juarez, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Photographer. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
My proudest professional accomplishment was when I produced, photographed, travelled, scouted, marketed, and found a location for my first gallery exhibit. I started that project from only a creative idea to the full-on exhibition. It was a challenging project for me to take on however I learned so much about showing work in galleries, putting on the show, and producing an idea good enough to actually sale some of the work/photos. I was so grateful to the people who help me and proud of myself for staying the course even when it seemed impossible to achieve.
Juarez, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
Every time I work I have to be creative. Even problem-solving requires some creativity. One example is when I produced a runway segment in a fashion show. I had to start from scratch from getting the clothing to arranging the music. In every step of that process required that I use creativity to get to the next step and final to the day of the show.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Photographer?
My advice is don't give up!
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state below what type of collaboration you are looking for?
Yes, I am looking for collaboration. I am looking for brands, creatives, directors, producers, and models.
