I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and fully raised there. I consider myself a creative, loving, fun and compassionate person who has a passion for makeup and everything fashion.
Isabel, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Make-up Artist?
My passion for makeup started when I was doing my makeup before a ballet show. I loved how confident it made me feel on stage in the ballet. Since then, my passion grew, and now I love making other people feel as confident as I am with makeup.
Who is your inspiration in life Isabel? How do you keep inspired?
My biggest inspiration is my mother. She is so kind and generous to other people, and always thinks of others before herself. Her positive outlook on life and perseverance keeps me inspired every day.
We all make mistakes Isabel; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Make-up Artist; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
Well, it is something very basic, but I did not put waterproof mascara on a client who was attending a wedding.
Isabel, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Make-up Artist, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
I make sure to talk to the client before doing their makeup. Always get to know the client and an insight of what they want, as in what kind of makeup they desire and what they want to be done. That way, when I do their makeup, I know what to prioritise.
Please tell us, Isabel, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Make-up Artist?
I do not remember a time where I had to be super strategic to meet my top priorities. Just being organised, handling time management and talking to the clients in order to know what they want before doing their makeup keeps me pretty well balanced.
Isabel, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
There was a time where I wanted to do a monochromatic look on a client, and she was not into it, but I knew that it was going to look so good on her. I convinced her to let me do the look on her first, and then, if she does not like it, I will do another look on her. Finally, I did the monochromatic look, and she loved it.
Isabel, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Make-up Artist. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
The proudest moment must be every time a client loves how they look and the confidence they grow when they see the final result. There is no better feeling than knowing the job that you did make another person feel better about themselves. It also reassures me that I am doing a good job.
Isabel, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
Last year for Halloween I transformed a friend into Lady Gaga. It was so fun. Not only did I did the makeup for her but I also picked out the clothes and wig for the transformation. It was difficult because I had to research and analyse Lady Gaga's face and try to recreate it on my friend, but it was more exciting than difficult.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Make-up Artist?
The best advice is to have fun with it and persevere all the way through. Being in the makeup industry is competitive, challenging and making it is equally as tough as an artist. The most important thing is, when you have a client, to treat the person with care and do the best job that you can do. Then that client will tell about your job to another person, and you will get more clients. That way, you expand your name and portfolio.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
Yes! I aspire to work for a cosmetics brand, magazine and celebrities and be able to do the makeup for their photo shoots or events. Also, I would love to collaborate with any makeup brand and do a collection with them.
