Our readers would love to get to know you more Haylee. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?
I am an extremely creative person, I'm happiest when I am creating something, whether it be in my day job as an interior designer, or as a photographer or just doing something creative.
Haylee, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Photographer?
I am very passionate about learning new things. I am very outgoing and easily inspired. my aspirations are to one day be able to sustain myself on photography alone and be able to do something I really love as my job.
I started photography at a young age with my parents as well as my grandfather who was a photographic journalist. Both my parents are avid wildlife fans and visit the game parks almost monthly here in South Africa. They started doing wildlife photography and they slowly started to teach my brother and me about photography. I become a lot more interested in it during my years of study, and I took my passion and went to work on Carnival cruise lines as a photographer and that is how I transitioned from animals in the wild to take photos of people.
Who is your inspiration in life Haylee? How do you keep inspired?
I am inspired by many people within the industry. but my main inspiration in my life is my parents, who both are extremely strong and full of life. I aspire to be like both of them in my career as well as my personal life. To be as dedicated to your passion as they are is inspiring and to see how they have grown as wildlife photographers over these few years is an amazing thing to watch. As well as seeing them excel in their chosen careers is something I enjoy and hope for myself in my life.
We all make mistakes Haylee, we wish we could take back. Please tell us about a time being a Photographer, you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I haven't really had a "situation" with that I think didn't warrant the kind of reaction I gave. I am not the type of person to just say what I think when it comes to customers, colleagues or clients. I never want to burn bridges for the future.
Haylee, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Photographer, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?
I believe that it is a first in first out system. if I have 5 clients to edit I tell them they should expect a certain time frame, I always give myself an extra week for delivery even though I know it won't take that long but in life, there are things that we can't control and I need to factor in those unforeseen situations.
Please tell us, Haylee, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Photographer?
I do this daily as I do have a day job and have strategically plan shoots around my busy work schedule. I mainly shoot on weekends or at night. But I try my best to accommodate every and any job that comes my way.
Haylee, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
I do this on a daily basis with being in the design industry. every day I'm giving people my opinion on what I think works best and how I think a certain item or thing should be done and I take that same mindset into a photo shoot. I need to get the client perfect images and I need to be in control in order to get the shots I need.
Haylee, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Photographer. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
My proudest moment is being confident enough to share my photos with the world and to actually venture into people photography, instead of only shooting animals who can never give you feedback. I am proud of myself for being able to create something that people enjoy.
Haylee, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
I love fashion and stylized shoots purely because of the creativity involved, there is so much that can be done and created.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Photographer?
Keep trying, and take criticism with a pinch of salt.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands, and creatives? If yes, please state below what type of collaboration you are looking for?
yes. I would love to work with brands and shoot for their upcoming catalogs in the fashion industry as well as the advertising industry.
Now for the best part Haylee! Please upload 5-10 photos so we can get to see your work.
