Alright, now for the interview! Firstly Harmony, how would you best describe yourself?
Our readers would love to get to know you more Harmony. Tell us about yourself, why you are passionate about what you do, and your journey so far.
I love the ability to create concepts with hair! Whether it's something that you would wear on the street or only see in a fashion magazine, it's something that touches someone somewhere... and I get to have a small part in it.
Would you like to complete our full Editorial interview or skip straight to uploading your photos?
Keep interviewing me!
What are your goals and how do you see yourself progressing in the field Harmony?
I'd love to be a full-time session hairstylist... either working with an agency or product line. I just want to create looks with other artists that tell a story
How do you communicate with people Harmony? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements?
I feel like I communicate pretty thoroughly... haha maybe too much sometimes. I've been told I'm pretty patient, but if I'm honest, I don't feel like it sometimes. Friendly. I'm very open to my client's requirements, but I'm I also want to be sure that they are aware of my professional opinion so we can mutually decide on the best outcome with all the cards on the table.
If you had to do it over again, what would you change Harmony?
I'd do hair sooner. :) (Went to school for something else first)
Who is your hero Harmony, and how have they helped you get to where you are?
My husband... and so many ways. On the surface, I can pull out the 'he's very supportive' card, but that wouldn't do it justice. When we were dating, and I was in school, I barely had money to eat and pay for rent. He helped then and even supported me when I switched to doing hair full time without an established clientele. Yeah, he's my rock.
How important are creative education courses Harmony? Have you taken any, and did you find them useful?
So important in this ever- changing business! I'm blessed to work in a salon that provides and encourages furthering our education. Yes, I've taken quite a few and am taking a colour course right now. I'm also excited to say I will be co-teaching a braiding class in a few weeks! Eeek!!!
Do you have any tips for someone who is just starting out in the industry?
It's a big and broad business. Make sure you work hard enough to bring something to the table that is unique to you.
Please add any photo credits for the photos you uploaded so that everybody can get recognised.
