Since I can remember, I've always had a camera in my hand. I was taking pictures of anything and everything around me. Before following my dreams of becoming a fashion photographer, I studied Kinesiology at the University of Windsor. While in one of the very boring classes, I realised I didn't want to pursue a career in the health industry. I dropped out of the program and pursued a career in photography. From the last day I stepped on the University of Windsor campus, and the first day I stepped on the Sheridan College campus, I knew I made the right decision to follow my dream.
Emily, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Photographer?
Other than photography, I have a passion for being active. I love to go for hikes, playing soccer, swimming and just being out in the outdoors. I aspire to be a commercial fashion photographer. I have assisted with a Toronto Fashion photographer and have been an assistant on a Sport Chek promotional shoot. Currently in my final year of the Bachelor of Photography program at Sheridan College. I am currently building my portfolio to show to the world what I am capable of in the fashion world!
Who is your inspiration in life Emily? How do you keep inspired?
Arthur Elgort is a huge inspiration to my work. I have watched every interview and behind the scenes video that Arthur has been involved in. I love the way he approaches each, and his outcomes are incredible.
We all make mistakes Emily; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Photographer; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I have dealt with a lot of flakey models and Makeup artists. While planning my photoshoots, I always plan for backups (or understudies) in case a model didn't show up. My over prepared mind has come in handy on some shoots in which models have not shown up for shoots.
Emily, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Photographer, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
I have not yet had to deal with a large number of clients.
Please tell us, Emily, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Photographer?
I always have every job written out in a calendar and have the calendar open on my desk. I am constantly checking due dates to make sure I have enough time between each due date.
Emily, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
I am not yet been in this situation.
Emily, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Photographer. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
To date, I have not had many accomplishments. Recently, I interned for an online designing shoe company, and many of my pieces were printed on their social media, and websites.
Emily, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
While interning at the online designing shoe company, I got to be very creative with their lifestyle fashion shoots. It was just my model and me, wandering the streets of Toronto captured the fashion and the street life. I found it exciting because you never know what kind of shots you were going to get. Exploring Toronto and unplanned photoshoot are my favourites and where I am most creative.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Photographer?
I would advise people to follow your dreams. Do not listen to what other people say and believe in yourself. I would tell people to work hard, and it will pay off.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state below what type of collaboration you are looking for?
YES! I would love to collaborate with other fashion photographers and makeup artists and models. I want to create new art for the fashion world.
