Firstly Emily, how would you best describe yourself?
Emily, please tell us your talent/work rate per hour?
Emily. Tell us ABOUT yourself.
I've been working as both a photographer and model, and I greatly enjoy both. I love capturing people in a way that makes them excited and exploring the art and creativity of portraiture. I'm pursuing photography a bit more right now to develop my editing skills, but I'm maintaining my work as a model. I've walked two runway shows and will be walking my third on July 18, and will be modelling for a fashion photographer in Grand Rapids for probably the 6th time after that.

Our readers would love to get to know you more Emily. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?
Because I work as both a model and a photographer, when I'm on either side of the camera I have a better sense of how to communicate what I want to create. It's easier to ask someone to pose a certain way once you know it's a pose that works, and it's also easier to give the photographer what they want when I'm modelling.
Emily, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Photographer?
I've always just loved art in all forms. When I was younger, I wanted to be a singer, then a painter, and now I take photos as a creative outlet and side job. I love how expressive people can be, and there's a certain feeling, a kind of high you get from creating spectacular photos with people.
Who is your inspiration in life Emily? How do you keep inspired?
The fashion photographer I work with a lot, Alexandria Blake Photography (@axieblake) inspires me to be more extra and to give it everything I have. One of the first models I worked with who goes by Chief Jay (@modelchiefjay) gets so into modelling that you have no other choice but to step up your game when he's around. I've modelled alongside him and taken photos of him, and it's been a great experience.
We all make mistakes Emily; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about a time being a Photographer; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I can't really say I've had a bad situation photographing anyone. Modelling for someone, on the other hand, could definitely have gone better. Communication is VITAL! Discussing expectations for the shoot on behalf of both parties is something that needs to be done!
Emily , when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Photographer, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
I'm still fairly new to photography, and all of my work has been creative work so far. I haven't been paid for any portraits or modelling shots, so I haven't had too much of an issue with managing work. I work mostly with friends right now, but I'm looking to expand my model base soon! Discussing expectations is definitely going to help when I start booking for shoots.
Please tell us, Emily, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Photographer?
I can't say that I've had any really pressing situations. I have had to put my foot down when people say that they expect free photos, though. I might take some out of the kindness of my heart, but that's not for someone to expect unless it's been discussed.
Emily, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
Can't say that I've had a situation like this quite yet.
Emily, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Photographer. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
I worked for a while on my portfolio, and I'm completely self-taught. I love my work and am so proud of what I've accomplished and am currently showcasing on my site right now. I hope to buy my own domain soon, but as an amateur and hobbyist, a free website will have to cover me.
Emily, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
The shoot I did with Justin (Chief Jay, @modelchiefjay) was AMAZING. I nearly died of excitement during the shoot. What made things even better was that everything was so perfect that the only editing I had to do was cropping photos. That's it!
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Photographer?
I end up doing a lot of free work, but that doesn't mean everyone who wants to shoot with me gets photos free. It's hard to put your foot down when you're starting out, but it has to be done, or else you'll just get pushed around.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state below what type of collaboration you are looking for?
I'd be more than happy to collaborate with more models, photographers, and makeup artists! I'm at a point now where I'm starting to reach out to local boutiques and brands to model their clothing for them, so I'm hoping to start getting some work soon.
