While losing weight was the main goal, there was a strong underlying factor I had to abolish to strive. My childhood was filled with the worst food addiction imaginable. So while my weight loss may make me stand out, the uniqueness is the fact that I overcame a severe eating addiction, binge eating x1000.
Dominique, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
My passions are to be a model, actress, and eventually have my TV network. I want to be a public figure in regards to fitness and show those struggling that it is possible. I have also considered publishing my book (currently writing), opening up a business relating to beauty and on the side, I would love to do photography just for personal leisure. I aspire to succeed in my dreams.
Who is your inspiration in life Dominique? How do you keep inspired?
My parents and my friends. My parents grew up and poverty and managed to work their way out of it through doing the best they could in life. They gave me everything I could ask for and doubled that. My friends keep me going on the days when I struggle to see results. Hearing others tell you how you inspire them drives you to keep going because they can resent your focus if you've fallen off track.
We all make mistakes Dominique; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
This wasn't necessarily a mistake but more of a regret. A colleague of mine was opening up about how tough their life is and how she felt like she didn't fit in and everyone made fun of her. The only thing I could manage to do was hug her. I wanted to open up to her and talk to her, but I could feel the tears coming on just thinking about what I would say and decided to say nothing.
Dominique, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
Always make sure your calendar is with you at all times! I set reminders for everything, so I am notified a day before and also a few hours before. Keeping track of my events on my calendar helps me make sure I got everything done and to not double book.
Please tell us, Dominique, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Model?
When it came time to submit to agents, I needed to make sure my photos and videos were the best of the best. This took a few weeks of planning and execution, but I managed to edit all my pictures and videos, I even took some of my headshots myself!
Dominique, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
As a tutor, this is probably the main goal of your job. Before modelling, I tutored college-level math ranging from entry-level to Calculus. Sometimes the student might struggle to understand the concept, but I find that when you explain why they need to use this concept or why you go from one step to the next, they feel more confident doing the work on their own.
Dominique, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
I'm still making my way up, but the most exciting feeling was getting an email about signing my first contract!
Dominique, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
I was in class, and we had to come up with our poses for the shoot. I was like "Man, this is easy!" Everyone was still figuring out their poses, but the teacher noticed I looked.. ready I guess. So, she called me out and asked if I would like to be the first one to take their pictures. I hesitated (why i don't know) and said okay. I felt a bit nervous because this was our first posing class, but after seeing my shots, I was shocked and proud of myself! It warmed my heart when some of the kids would come up to me and say "Hey I used your pose it was nice!" Everyone in the class was so genuine.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?
Don't give up! Take big risks and keep going until you know you're there! This goes for anything in life, the only way to reach your goal is to keep going!! :)
