Robyn, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Brand?
My passion is fashion. I aspire to make Dolce & Diva a worldwide brand with stores all over the world. I also want to create a curvy size line for all of my outfits and expand the Dolce tweed suit collection.
I started Dolce & Diva in 2016 when I was on maternity leave from my corporate job. I started with only 12 pieces and did all of my photography (on my iPhone), website design, and everything. Eventually, I was able to expand to carrying more pieces and hire a graphic designer and photographer. Then, in February of 2017, I was able to quit my corporate job and work full time on Dolce & Diva and expanding the inventory and brand.
Who is your inspiration in life Robyn? How do you stay inspired as Brand?
My fashion inspiration is Coco Chanel. I love her classic and chic designs, and I am so inspired by how she made Chanel such a respected and one of the most coveted labels in the world.
I stay inspired as a brand by the fashion I see every day while walking in the city, running errands, on social media, magazines, tv, etc. Old Hollywood glamour and style also inspire me.
Another thing that keeps me inspired as a brand is being surrounded by so many other women business owners and entrepreneurs. I am blessed to have many other female friends that are entrepreneurs and that own different businesses. Just being around each other is inspiring and we are always pushing each other, supporting each other, and talking about ideas and business.
We all make mistakes Robyn; we wish we could take back. What was the error you made in the past that you want to you can bring back?
I wish that I had believed in myself and started my business sooner! One thing I hope that I could take back is not keeping all of my receipts and not using Quickbooks my first year of business. Once it became time for taxes, it was a mess! Now I stay super organised and use Quickbooks to keep track of all my sales and expenses.
Robyn, How do you describe yourself regarding working with clients?
I love working with clients. I live for the look on their faces when they find that perfect outfit. I try to find something that will look great on them.
Please tell us, Robyn, how do you prioritise work, social life, friends, and family?
My priorities are God and my children and then work. My children are also my reason Why. After that comes the rest of my family, friends, and social life. Luckily, as I’ve said before my friends are also entrepreneurs and business owners, so spending time with them can also involve work, learning, motivating, and inspiring one another. My social life nowadays consists of pop up shops, networking events, and women’s empowerment events.
Robyn, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
I’m the boss, so I don’t need to persuade anyone. I have been through a lot of different photographers throughout the past two years, and I just kept looking until I found one that saw my vision and the quality of work I expected.
Robyn, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Brand.
I have many things I’m proud of with Dolce & Diva. First, I'm pleased to say you started this business on my own with no help and had stayed true to my vision. I'm proud of how I’ve grown my brand and inventory and sales. I’m also proud of all of my celebrity promoters.
Robyn, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or challenging about it?
When I am creating my website, and when I am styling and getting ready for photo shoots I need to be very creative. I love it. I get to play with different fabrics, backgrounds, layouts, colours, shoes, accessories and see what pops the most or gives the vibe I’m looking for. The tricky part is choosing the final shots.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Brand?*
Never give up! Promote your brand like crazy, get social media influencers, stay true to your vision, believe in yourself, and keep going no matter what. Try to cater to your customers and do things that make your brand stand out from others.
