I usually prefer to charge per project rather than per hour but, if I had to put a number per hour I would say it's around $250 an hour.

I'm a self-taught photographer from Miami. I love capturing people and their stories on camera. When I'm not shooting, I'm more than likely being a nerd and/or binging on The Office re-runs.

Would you like to complete our full Editorial interview or skip straight to uploading your photos? (12 more interview questions).

Our readers would love to get to know you more Derek. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?

I think what makes me unique is my simple but also bold aesthetic. I don't like to over-clutter my work (or my life for that matter) but I do want to make sure that what I do makes an impact.

Derek, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Photographer?

I started as a photographer once I realized that I enjoyed creating cool and unique content. I like to share what I create and one day hopes to have a big enough following to be able to support myself comfortably through my passion.

Who is your inspiration in life Derek? How do you keep inspired?

Oh, I have tons of people and things that inspire me. Some are fictional, some are famous, and some are my family. Ultimately though, I like to remember that we only get one shot to make our life count and I think about then when I feel uninspired.

We all make mistakes Derek, we wish we could take back. Please tell us about a time being a Photographer, you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I usually work alone but the few times I've collaborated with others has gone relatively well.

Derek, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Photographer, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?

The first thing I like to do is always set clear expectations around delivery time and costs since those are the two things that can quickly upset a client and become an issue. Other than that, I try not to overbook myself.

Please tell us, Derek, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Photographer?

Every day requires me to be very strategic with how I use my time. Balancing family life and work can get tricky so always being efficient with my time is something I try to hold myself accountable for.

Derek, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
Any time a potential client doesn't like a quoted price I "persuade" them to feel otherwise. It's more like educating them about why photography costs as much as it does and the ton of time invested on my behalf for each and every assignment.

Derek, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Photographer. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
I'd say the first time I received a gift from a client is a pretty proud moment for me. The human aspect is a very important part of portrait photography so that fact that their experience leads them to want to give me something really made me feel like I'm doing what I'm supposed to as a photographer and encouraged me to always try my best.

Derek, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
Venturing into cosplay photography was an interesting period in my career. I didn't end up sticking with it, but it was very cool to meet new people and work with a group of people who are just as passionate about their cosplay as I am about photography.

What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Photographer?

Keep on practicing and learning. Then, once you've mastered it, practice some more and learn some more. If you don't think you need to practice or learn anymore, you're doing something wrong. There is always some aspect of your work where you can improve.

Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands, and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
Yes, I'm always looking to collaborate with new models and graphic designers. I also want to start working with more brands.

Now for the best part Derek! Please upload 5-10 photos so we can get to see your work.
