I am obsessed with capturing the real personality behind a person or character. My work reflects a unique perspective and is always somehow delicately beautiful.
Deanna, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as Photographer?
I want to build an empire. I strive every day to create opportunities for myself and other creatives within the industry. I am passionate about visual representation and challenging the polished exterior of the media. I started when I was 17 years old. I was never afraid of asking important people to collaborate. I asked my local Myer store if I would be able to borrow a few items of clothing and some shoes for an upcoming shoot I was organizing. I left the store that day with registered lending of over $5000 in products for my models. The shoot escalated from a small, single model shoot to 3 concepts, 5 models, 2 make up artists and a hair stylist. We also featured a jewelry label and formal dresses by another store. I don't see my limitations as a challenge; I see them as a goal — Something to aim to break.
Who is your inspiration in life Deanna? How do you stay inspired as a Photographer?
My daughter constantly inspires me. She is 3, and she never takes no for an answer. She challenges the everyday concepts we take as a given, and that inspires me to do the same every day. I pull inspiration from all around me from the florals and nature of each season to the way the ocean moves.
We all make mistakes Deanna; we wish we could take back. What was the mistake you made in the past that you wish you can take back?
I take every "mistake" as a new journey. Countless reactions have been caused by my actions or events that have been completely out of my power. I get asked this question a lot, and my answer is always the same: Although mistakes may sting for a second, the way you handle them will shape the reaction for the rest its the duration. React well, and it could be the best thing to ever happen to you.
Deanna, How do you describe yourself in terms of working with clients?
I love my clients. I love how everyone has their interpretation of a similar concept. Whether they consider themselves creative souls or not. My clients always have something they bring to the table, and they always give me a new perspective on their industry.
Please tell us, Deanna, how do you prioritize work, social life, friends, and family?
As I said, I have a daughter, a husband, and a multi-level business. I am always busy. The best way I can think of to make sure there is a happy balance to say yes to opportunity, whether that is the opportunity at work for other shoot or the opportunity to read one more book to my daughter at night. They're all important, and I say yes to all of them.
Deanna, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
There was this one time at a collaboration where I was one of 3 photographers, and there was a small disagreement that arose. The other photographers were shadowing each other and "stealing" their perspective, their shot. After the shoot, I asked both photographers to come back and get their images on separate displays. They compared the images, and I asked them to play a game of memory with their shots. They couldn't find the exact photos where they were supposedly shadowing each other — a simple lesson in perspective and creative license.
Deanna, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Photographer.
Well, at the beginning of 2018, I was lucky enough to be selected and published in Vintage Bride Magazine. My proudest moments are those in print.
Deanna, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
Every time I get together with other creatives, and we're all welcoming to new concepts, and the opportunity to create is a great moment. My most recent collaboration was a water bath shoot with floral arrangements.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Photographer?
Collaboration beats competition any day.
