I am a young designer from New York City who had his hobby turn into a passion. With that passion, I put my life story and creative thoughts into the designs that I create. I hadn't come from a background where I was expected to be a designer but despite what people thought I should do I pursued what I wanted to do. Being a Temple University student and balancing school and fashion has been a lot ever since my brand has started thriving having me apart of an NYC Fashion Week show and being apart of Atlantic City Fashion Week 2017. I always enjoyed the idea of turning simplicity into something spectacular while combing urban and luxury. It creates a look that is easily adaptable to any situation and can make anyone look beyond amazing. Being from New York City and transitioning to Philadelphia and seeing the different styles of people has changed my outlook on trends and how I dress. There is a story behind every look if you pay attention. I am only 22 and have a long way to go but I have an amazing team behind me that supports the brand. Including having my umbrella brand Dt. Clothing owned by a young successful model Dominic Tha and watching its growth has me excited for whats to come. This is just the beginning for Vaughn Clothing.

Our readers would love to get to know you more Davone. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?

You would think I have like this extensive fashion background that I learned through schooling but I really don't. Everything was self-taught in regards to fashion which came with trial and error or attending shows and networking with the right people. I remember trying to reach out to top designers and their companies just to ask if we could sit and talk so I could learn from them and of course I either didn't get a response or was ignored because they want to know who this kid is at 18 years old. I've learned a lot from learning and watching successful and failed designers so I knew what to do and what not to do. Still, to this day I am learning but one of the best pieces of advice I got was to just take your time. In addition, learn about everything in regards to fashion dealing with fabrics, learning how to sew or just terminology as if you were a fashion student. Whether or not you were going to have to use it, it gives you the head start you need to be successful in this industry.

Davone, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Designer?

I started when I was 16 when I saw a schoolmate in high-school start his own brand and it was kind of success to an extent. He had done something I always wanted to do and I thought why can't that be me. When I started I quickly learned the business side of things and how to fail at a start-up designer. I kind of gave up for a few years because I went on to play college football and do everything besides dealing with fashion. I told my team-mates one night that I was going to start my brand again and they wanted to check it out. I don't know why I said it but it was a reason and I really just focused on building my brand the right way this time with everything I learned. Even after I failed I still networked and did online research and got sample fabrics. I added business and fashion this time and decided to start doing and stop talking. My aspiration is to really help younger people like myself start their own thing and show them how to be successful. I want to be able to help them grow and watch them exceed expectations. For Vaughn Clothing my aspiration is to be a top 10 brand in the U.S. We have a far way to go but we will be there and I typically say it. I want to be bigger than Gucci and Louis Vuitton. I just know starting small and learning while taking action is more important than just acting because of your excited. Learning from your mistakes is where your success will come from.

Who is your inspiration in life Davone? How do you keep inspired?

My inspiration is my family and the doubt I have been giving all my life. Even from my peers and own family, I have been doubted before. When it came to my family I knew they were only looking for my best interest but a few of my peers really did not want me to get to where I am. I use that as a driving factor to do more and be better as a designer. My brother and his daughter my niece are deceased due to crime in my city in Brooklyn, New York and I kept a promise to my brother. One of the last things he told me in regards to Vaughn was to take your time it's going to happen but never get overly anxious. Looking at my family and our situation and knowing my niece and brother isn't here Is almost all the motivation I need. I'm starting a new path for my family and I am showing those who have been doubted that there's no reason to listen. I want to be that muse for younger designers or people in general who get that doubt every day. I also want to be the top fashion designer in the world. I want Vaughn to be a name recognized not only in the U.S but worldwide.

We all make mistakes Davone, we wish we could take back. Please tell us about a time being a Designer, you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
A situation I wish I could take back with a colleague is when someone from my team couldn't understand where I was coming vs their opinion and from that, I kind of became closed off towards them. The worse quality to have is to be closed minded especially in this industry. If I was a little bit more open I probably would have come up with a design I have now a lot earlier

Davone, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Designer, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?

Long nights and early mornings. It's a 24/7 job and you never really get to sleep and that's why you have to remain passionate about what you do.

Please tell us Davone, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Designer?

In the beginning before officially launching Vaughn Clothing. I know every move was going to make for the next two years before everyone else. I have designs for the next two years that I already have had to alter according to trends and the variety of styles in the world today. So when something pops up is when the strategy for me comes into play because you never know where opportunity is going to come from.

Davone, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
During our company meeting. A lot of people only see fashion and creativity and design and completely disregard the business side and that these materials and fabrics cost money. So when deciding what I am about to create I have to account for expenses and I basically persuaded a partner of mines to up the budget.

Davone please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Designer. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
My first fashion show ever was my proudest moment. At that moment I knew that I had learned so much from the mistakes and the good things that happened that night. That night I knew that I was going to be a successful designer and brand owner. The second and third fashion show I did was almost picture perfect after that and they only continue to get better.

Davone, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
I'm always allowed to be creative with my work. The difficult part is when you hit the creative roadblock. But the fun part is when you have so many ideas you don't know where to stop.

What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Designer?

Never stop designing. The most foolish idea to you is a treasure to someone else. Understand the fashion world before you just jump and don't be afraid to learn from your mistakes. You will make them so accept them and move on. Most importantly understand and know your customer because they matter the most after your own creativity.

Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands, and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
I am looking for more umbrella brands for Vaughn Clothing. I am also looking to learn from various fashion talents from all area's of the world. I really want to expand and learn more about the styles and trends worldwide. In addition, a collaboration shoot would be fun for me I definitely always look to do that. Lastly, I am looking for fashion shows in NYC to participate in and potentially shows to just attend in other areas. If I could work with another designer that would be amazing because I can get a variety of perspectives. Collaborations with other brands and fashion talents are almost necessary when it comes to me.

Now for the best part Davone! Please upload 5-10 photos so we can get to see your work.
