I’m Dominican, 17 years old and currently in my last year of high school I️ plan on attending St. John’s college fall 2018. I plan to become a successful model and use my Platform as a Dominican to help others.

Our readers would love to get to know you more Darvelis. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you?

What is unique about me is my ability to always want more from myself and never settle for anything I️ believe you can always improve yourself and the way you live. I’ve always been the type of person that wanted to be successful and help the people that were always around me. I️ don’t believe that people should be put in a category such as being labelled leader or follower some people may have the same goals and be moving towards the same direction but end in their own lane and that’s what I️ want people to understand.

Darvelis, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?

I️ want to be a successful model so that I️ can use my platform as a Dominican to not only inspire Hispanics but minorities as well.

Who is your inspiration in life Darvelis? How do you keep inspired?

My inspiration in life is Michael Jackson; he was never in a category he was a category. Michael Jackson was what individuality is and has opened doors for many people today, and that is what I️ plan to do in the future and for the next generation.

We all make mistakes Darvelis; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model, you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I got my first modelling gig and right off the bat the Lady had told me that I️ had to straighten my hair it was a requirement. I️ didn’t hesitate and agreed to straighten my hair when showed my family and friends the final pictures they were all like, well where’s your curly hair you look so different, and I️ was upset being that I️ was going through a phase where I️ wanted to try different looks and change my appearance. I️ won’t ever let someone tell me how to look and if my appearance is okay or not till this day I️ regret being so blind at the fact that I️ was being asked to portray a different person then the one I️ was.

Darvelis, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritizing your clients’ needs?

I️ haven’t gotten to this point, but we’ll see how I️ handle it in the future. Fingers crossed.

Please tell us Darvel is, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Model?

I was asked to do a shoot for an upcoming makeup artist to help build her portfolio, and her instructions to me were to be sensual, pure and ver exotic which is confusing at first. It was me and two other girls doing this shoot. We each had our shot and then we had to take a picture together, our instruction was to represent unity in the photo and make it seem that we were three in one. As the photographer takes the pictures of us she’s telling me to get closer, put your hand on her shoulder, caressing her face just make it seem peaceful and sexy. This was a very challenging shoot for me because I was forced to step out of my comfort zone and be physical with these girls I️ had just met, But I’m glad I️ was challenged cause it helped me be less shy and more confident.

Darvelis, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.
A time where I️ was able to persuade someone, I️ can’t recall I️ always come to an understanding with my clients.

Darvelis, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you just want with share to everyone. What is it and why?
My proudest accomplishment would have to be, leading a club school for young girls who aspired to be models and help them find themselves.

Darvelis, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
At a time where I️ got to be creative with my work was when I️ got to pick the location of the shoot and theme.

What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?

Never let anyone tell you who you’re supposed to be, what’s ok with you or what’s not. Stay true to yourself. Be you!

Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state what type of collaboration you are looking for?
I'm looking to start and further my career, so I’m pretty much open to any brand to help me get my vision out there.
