ABOUT

The reason why I'm so interested in modelling is that I always admired models and were inspired by runway walks etc. People would tell me I would be perfect for TV. What makes me unique is my outgoing personality, my high cheekbones and also my thick natural eyebrows.

Darryl, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?

My passion is to be in front of every magazine. I want to make people do a double take whenever they are checking out that the grocery store and they see my face in a magazine. I want to make it to NYFW. I started modelling in Los Angeles. I booked a photo shoot with a local photographer there who worked with lots of celebrities such as YG, PNB Rock, etc. and It took off from there.

Who is your inspiration in life Darryl? How do you keep inspired?

My inspiration is EVERY guy I see in a magazine. I always tell myself that IT WILL be me on that magazine some day. God will give me my day. I'm patient!

We all make mistakes Darryl; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.

I haven’t had any bad experiences yet modelling. Mind you I'm still fresh meat in the modelling world so I'm still getting ready but If that time comes (hopefully it doesn't) then I will handle it accordingly.

Darryl, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?

Again, I am still new in the modelling world, so I haven't worked with any big clients yet. The photographers that I have worked with though were super helpful and nice. Whatever they would ask me to do, I would do it. I want to look good, but I also want them to look just as good because it's my face, body etc. that is exposed, so I go with the flow.

Please tell us, Darryl, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Model?

I would go back to my first photo shoot. It was in Los Angeles, and I am from Pittsburgh, PA which is across the country of the United States so I wasn't familiar with the LA area so before my photo shoot, I would look up directions to the photographer so that I wouldn't be late to my shoot. Time is money, so it all worked out.

Darryl, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.

My job back at home, I am a counsellor for intellectual disability clients, and I persuaded my team lead to turn music on for the clients, so they are more relaxed. At first, my team lead thought it was a bad idea, so I told her previous situations where I turned music on to calm my clients and told her to hear me out & let me try. My team lead let me try it out & it worked of course. She was very pleased with my idea.

Darryl, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you want to share with everyone. What is it and why?

The proudest moment I've had was my first ever photo shoot in LA. I was scared and didn't have confidence in myself, so I just thought I would mess the whole shoot up.. and the photographer told me at the end of my session he would love for me to come back to do another shoot. I felt so good about myself, and it was that moment where I told myself. Modelling is for me

Darryl, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?

The last shoot I did, I wore feminine colors to show off my feminine side of modelling. It was scary but very exciting, but I never did a shoot with pink on, but it all turned out great I think.

What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?

First and foremost, Be confident in yourself and know you. If you aren't confident, you cannot and will not succeed in the modelling industry. Even though, I just put my foot in the water doing modelling confidence is key!

Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state below what type of collaboration you are looking for?

Yes, I am looking for any collaboration with new models, new photographers because we have to stick together! But, as in the high profile, I want to collaborate with Kayne West and his Yeezy collection, I want to be on the runway during New York Fashion Week, I also want to shoot with Paper Magazine. Those are my dreams!
