What makes me unique is the fact I am not going to lie and tell you I know the answer to that quest because I don't know. That's a serious question what makes me unique from every other model because we are all chasing the same thing, becoming a well-known model. Though, I can tell every reader out there what makes me unique is I was told almost everything about me was not good enough by my peers I was told by some of the top agents in LA, California that I was not what they were looking for but what makes me unique is ... I didn't give up. Not everyone can say that.
Brittany, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
My passion and aspiration in life are to push Young African American girls to chase after their dreams. Working with underprivileged kids, I have seen so many young girls give up on their dreams. I want to be that encouragement that sense of hope when giving up is the only option because I was once there. I still find myself returning to that place sometimes. It's not a good feeling when you have a dream, and so many people around you tell you to give up in so many different ways. You lose not the only sight of your dreams but also yourself. I started after I attended a fashion and art show. I started talking about how I wanted to be a model for how I was going to be one. However, I took my first professional picture back in 2016. A photographer walked up to my friends and me and asked can he take a few pictures of me he was in the process of building his portfolio. I asked why due to me being hesitant and sceptical. All these beautiful women are walking around, and you decided to stop me. He told me I had this unique look this unique style and he wanted to capture just that. After that, I was searching for that look he seen in me, and once I found it, I embraced it and now here I am.
Who is your inspiration in life Brittany? How do you keep inspired?
My inspiration in life is my two nieces. I look at them and think to myself I never want you to feel what I felt growing up. I never want you to feel as if you are not good enough when you are perfect. Everyone was made perfect in their way, and I want my nieces always to remember that. I stay inspired because I know they are watching me. Especially my six-year-old niece. I was in the garage practising my walk for a big show I had coming up, and she just kept watching me. So I told her to come here and follow along. She did just that she had my walk down packed I couldn't help but laugh and teach her everything I could about walking the runway. I remember that if I give up I not only fail myself but I fell them as well. I have two little girls counting on me to show them how to be a courageous woman, and I plan on being just that. My two little angels are all the inspiration I need to stay inspired.
We all make mistakes Brittany; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I had a colleague who sees me as her competition and not her partner or her teammate. As soon as I walked on set, she began giving me the side eye she tried to push me to the side of every set every chance she got. I bit right into it, and I also got into the mindset of she is my competition. I feel I could have handled this situation by pulling her to the side and letting her know our only competition is that camera not each other. We are both here for the same thing to grow to prosper. Tearing each other down will not get us anywhere. I could have helped her learn a lesson she may not have been able to learn on her own. I feel like that is a models biggest mistake seeing everyone as competition when in reality we are all just trying to make it to the flashing lights, and the only how you can do that is by uplifting each other. Remember you never know who you may meet in life. Tearing down a colleague may also be you tearing down your career.
Brittany, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
I have a calendar that I log in all my upcoming events. In addition to that, I have a journal I keep all of my modelling information. I always ask my clients what is your vision and how do you see me apart of that vision? I always want to know in advance how do you want my hair my makeup, what should my wardrobe consist of. What is the layout of this event? I always get details in advance that way I have time to plan, and I never get confused on what I am doing for which client because I already know in advance.
Please tell us, Brittany, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Model?
I received an opportunity to do a big three-day premiere in LA. However, it included a lot of money planning and energy. I had no idea where the money was coming from. So I prayed on the situation and asked what I to do am, and from there I sat down I made a vision board that included everything I needed to do. Everything I needed to buy everything I need to pack and with that all my task were taken care of
Brittany, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
I was doing a video shoot with a guy in his fancy car, and he didn't want me to sit on top of his seats with my heels in his seats, and I told him, hey if you want a good video to listen to me I know what I am doing and he laughed and said fine you know what's best. And hey I set right there, and it looked amazing.
Brittany, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
My proudest moment would have to be going to an audition for my first fashion show ever and not making the model selection. However, that pushed me to try harder, so I practised and went to another audition for a different show and made the model selection for that cut. In addition, I just auditioned for the exact same show I first auditioned for, and I got in two weeks ago. It was amazing to see that progress and growth and have others see that as well.
Brittany, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
A time I was able to be creative with my work was when I had to make a comp card for the very first time for a show I was getting ready for where I had a chance to do an agent meet and greet. I had to have four different looks and had no idea what I was going to do or what look I was looking for. So I called an old friend of mine who is now stylish and for about two weeks we had several fittings to was very exciting but also very difficult because being a college student and a model is really hard when it comes to finances working a minimum wage job. However, we got it down, and my comp cards were beautiful.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?
I would tell someone in need of advice to do two things. Listen to all the negative comments people are saying about you because those negative comments are going to push you and teach you how to be strong because in life there will always be someone out there waiting to criticise you on every little thing you do. I will also tell them to keep going never give up because giving up will be your “haters†greatest accomplishment while growing and pushing through will be their biggest failure. The world is yours so enjoy it and leave the biggest mark on it you possibly can.
