One unique thing about me is my heritage. I love my family very much and am proud to be African American and Native American.
Antonia, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
I have a passion for helping people and effecting change. This aligns with my career aspiration which is to become a doctor. I'm currently a first-year medical student and am very interested in Dermatology. I want to help people feel good about themselves and increase their self-esteem.
Who is your inspiration in life Antonia? How do you keep inspired?
My inspiration in life stems from my older sister and my father. My sister's death was very tragic for me. She has inspired me to lead with my heart and follow my dreams. Thanks to that I have travelled to 15 different countries and completed research and studying abroad. My father inspires me to be a caring and compassionate physician because he has done such a great job being that to his patients.
We all make mistakes Antonia; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
We all make mistakes at some point in time, and I think that it's important to learn from them for the future rather than letting them weigh you down. That being said, there was one time I wish I had handled a situation with my colleague differently. There was a Photoshoot for a clothing line that I was apart of, and a fellow model kept asking me to be honest with her about what I thought of the outfit she picked out. I was honest with her and kind of blunt at the same time because we were moving fast through the shoot. I think she took it pretty personally that I did not like certain outfits. Afterwards, we spoke another time, and she expressed to me how down she felt after that. I promptly explained to her that you are not what you wear and part of being a model is owning whatever you have on because you never know what the stylists will put you in. I realised that next time I was put in a situation like that I have to make sure to be more specific with the person in what I say and how I say it to them.
Antonia, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
I am a very organisation oriented person. I make to-do lists and spreadsheets for a lot of stuff. So often when working with clients, I'll be sure to jot down somethings that they emphasise so I know what's important to pay attention to.
Please tell us, Antonia, about a time you had to be very strategic to meet all your top priorities as a Model?
I think it's important to manage your time well to keep your priorities straight as a model. Personally, I have to be sure to spend my time wisely and make the most out of blocking out my time because both studying and modelling are important to me.
Antonia, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
One time, I had a shoot with a fitness company. I had to convince the photographer of an idea I had for one of the photos. I had to show him and give him some metaphors visually. I explained the thought process of the viewer/buyer who would be viewing the photo. He appreciated my research and perspective on the brand.
Antonia pl, ease tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
One of my proudest moments was being in a fitness DVD. I consider this a proud moment for myself because I think it's important to live a healthy lifestyle and I had the chance to share that with the world. Plus, the exercises were pretty challenging, so I was proud of myself for being able to do them fast with good technique over and over again because the shoot required us sometimes to reshoot certain parts of the scenes.
Antonia, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
I did a Photoshoot in the Baltimore alley canvases one time. It had three different levels and various backgrounds. It gave me a chance to get creative and change up my outfits and poses with all the different scenes creating different concepts.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?
I would say to go for it! Yes, there are a lot of people who want to be models, but you can't compare yourself to others. There's only one you! Lead with your heart and give your best and you will succeed despite your fears!
