My name is Amber; I’m 24 years old. I️ did model in high school, and I️ miss it terribly. I️ love getting my picture taken, and even being behind the lenses too. I️ filmed and did photoshoots for universal studios in Orlando. December I️ will be finished with my BA degree and at the start of pursuing my own fashion business. I'm very open to new ideas, and learning new things!
Our readers would love to get to know you more Amber. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you, your brand or the services you offer?
I️ am a very outgoing person, but can also be shy sometimes. I️ love being able to express me or become someone different and beyond confident when it comes to taking pictures. Sometimes it becomes an escape from reality because taking photos allows you to dress up and feel comfortable in what you're doing. With social media now a lot of girls edit their photos to look skinnier, and I️, however, embrace my few jelly rolls I️ have when sitting down but don’t write my photos to make them look thinner.
Amber, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
When I️ started as a model, it was in high school for university. My big thing with modelling is to aspire others that you can do it no matter the shape and size. Because I️ myself am not very tall nor super skinny, but a petite girl at that.
Who is your inspiration in life Amber? How do you stay inspired as Model?
I️ would say that Tyra Banks and Marilyn Monroe are two big model icons. They both represent my terms of modeling, and they embrace their curves or any flaws they may have that no one knows. By staying inspired, I️ watch a lot of modelling shows or tips and tricks when it comes to posing and practice them in front of my mirror.
We all make mistakes Amber; we wish we could take back. What was the error you made in the past that you want to you can bring back?
I️ can’t say there are any mistakes that I’d want to take back, because errors are what builds us as people and without errors, we wouldn’t learn from them.
Amber, How do you describe yourself regarding working with clients?
I’m a very open-minded person, I️ am always open to new ideas. Learning new tips and techniques, and learning how to get the best of each picture. Looking at the pictures taken and reviewing them to see what could be done differently, be better, or make the photo a much stronger photo.
Please tell us, Amber, how do you prioritise work, social life, friends, and family?
I️ have off work Sunday to Thursday. Typically I️ do all my remaining homework Sunday night, but I️ finish a lot of it throughout the week to give myself time with friends or family. I️ work with my parents, so I️ always see them at work, and Sundays and Mondays I’m either with my boyfriend or friends depending if I️ had all my homework done. Rather than going downtown drinking, I️ like to stay home instead. I’m not much of a person that wants to go out and drinks and only have a few close friends, and when my friend and I️ hang out, we usually bring a couple of different outfits go downtown or to the water and take a bunch of photos at cool spots we find. If my friend isn’t taking my photo, then I’m sometimes camping or travelling somewhere with my boyfriend making vlog videos and having him take my pictures.
Amber, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
At work now I️ am a manager, so when I️ come to work, I️ need to encourage my team to all come together and work. The relationships I️ have with my employees is a friendly and understanding work environment, the excitement I️ have when I️ work helps get the team going, and I️ never directly tell them what duties to do, but I️ help them do the task as well. Usually, I️ will come up with some cool mix drink and when we do that we will all have a competition of who can sell the most.
Amber, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model.
My proudest accomplishment as a model was getting the gig with universal for Harry Potter. If it weren’t for my grandma always dressing me up like her life-size Barbie, I️ would have never been found by an agent who took time there, and that was when I️ was 12. Then at 15 I️ was in a 6-day production for Harry Potter.
Amber, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or challenging about it?
Where I️ work now, I️ get to be creative by bartending. With doing that, I️ like sugar, so I️ try to come up with a cocktail idea of what the season or holiday is to go with it. The tricky part is making sure the taste or flavours go together, but then it is exciting to make, and then you’ll have a customer order multiple of them, and one customer leads to another customer seeing the presentation of the drink and ordering one too.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?*
I️ would tell them to go for it, don’t knock it till you try it. When you model, you can become someone different, and feel more empowered when you do. To have your make up done, or dressing a resemblance to your favourite icon it will make you become more self-empowered and sometimes more courageous in a different aspect.
