I am a go-getter. I know that a career as a model and actress is what I want, and I'm willing to do what it takes to get it. I spend so much time and effort in developing myself as a better actress and model. What makes me unique is my message: as a model, I want to prove to the industry that short girls who are a bit bigger can be fashion models too and should be given a chance! I am a fighter, and what makes me unique is that I am not afraid to take a stand against this issue.
Alyssa, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?
My passion is to be an actress and model. I started as a model along with acting after joining with a small, local talent agency that takes on newcomers. I haven't gotten any professional modelling jobs yet. However, I have created my at-home photo shoots using the cell phone that I share on my professional Instagram account. I use hashtags to get people's attention in hopes that the scouting tags will allow modelling scouts from major agencies to see my potential.
Who is your inspiration in life Alyssa? How do you keep inspired?
My inspiration is Ashley Graham. She is the living embodiment of what I am trying to preach: that women of larger sizes and shorter heights can be amazing fashion models too. Modelling and acting truly are my passions, so I have no trouble with keeping inspired.
We all make mistakes Alyssa; we wish we could take back. Please tell us about time being a Model; you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
One mistake I made was signing with a scam agency. I got too excited about the possibility of finally obtaining modelling jobs that I melted in the palm of their hands. Unfortunately, part of the contract required a fee that I could hardly afford, but because I had already signed the contract, I was forced to pay. I am still currently trying to end my contract with them.
Alyssa, when you’re working with a large number of clients, it’s tricky to deliver excellent service to them all. As a Model, how do you go about prioritising your clients’ needs?
Because I'm still new to the industry as a model, I haven't been in a position where I am working with a large number of clients. As an actress, I have. The most important thing is communication. If all clients understand your schedule and can respect your time restraints, you should still be able to give each one the service they are looking for or better.
Please tell us, Alyssa, about a time you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities as a Model?
Creating my schedule can be strategic. You have to make choices and prioritise based on how you feel each job will affect your career. Networking with the right people is also key.
Alyssa, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
I am able to successfully persuade someone usually when I am willing to understand it their way first. Once I can speak their language, I can persuade them to see my way of doing something.
Alyssa, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model. There might be many, but there is always this proudest moment that you want to share with everyone. What is it and why?
My proudest accomplishment as a model so far would be simply having the guts actually to try it! I was hesitant at first, but once I decided to be brave and try something new, I couldn't have been more proud of myself. Now I'm fighting for what I want, and I continue to surprise myself with how I'm finding my voice and establishing my beginnings as a model and actress.
Alyssa, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?
A perfect example of me being able to be creative with my work was creating my professional Instagram account. It was exciting to have my at-home photo shoots (simply using my cell-phone). I was both the photographer and the model and surprised myself with my ability to come up with poses.
What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Model?
Go for it! If this is something you want to do, try it! Find an agency (a legit one that won't ask you for money) willing to fight for you as a model and working hard to get you work. I am still in this phase myself, so don't feel down if it's difficult at first! Patience is key in this industry. If you truly feel like you should be in this, your time will come.
Are you looking for collaboration with fashion talents, brands and creatives? If yes, please state below what type of collaboration you are looking for?
Yes! I would love to work with other models. I would also love to work for recognisable brands. Lastly, I am also trying out YouTube. A collab with some YouTube creatives would be awesome!
